It wasn't a personal foul--it was an interference penalty. I assume that if someone just took out the returner, they could call unnecessary roughness, which would put it at the 35?

Yes, it was an interference penalty. IOW, you can just take out the punt returner - which is exactly what happened to Falslev - and rather getting an unnecessary roughness penalty, you'll just get an interference call and the ball out to the 20-25 yard line. So maybe it was simply the wrong call - maybe they should have called unnecessary roughness.

I don't understand those who are saying the 2009 Oklahoma win was better than this one. Oklahoma may have been a better team than Texas is, but BYU completely dominated Texas physically in the trenches and everywhere else. I think this was by far BYU's best performance in the Mendenhall era and among the top 5 performances all time. There was no trickeration or scheming. It was pure domination on the line on both sides of the ball. It was big boy football in every sense of the word. Other wins may have had a bigger impact in terms of rankings and profile, but when it comes to raw performance ... this is pretty close to the top.

I think we need to wait a little to understand the full context of the win, but man it's hard not to want to place this win pretty high on the list.

Texas may not finish a top 15 team, but they're good. They were pretty good last year and returned all those starters.

The complete physical domination was what was so awesome and unexpected about that game. I hope we can continue to do that, but it's hard not to get excited when you see a win like that. Damn that loss to Virginia sucks right now.

It all depends on what happens next.

The Oklahoma win was big. But it lost some luster when FSU did to BYU what BYU just did to Texas.

If BYU turns around and flops going forward...this win won't mean as much.

That was a lot of fun. If we ranked football coaches on each game, Bronco comes out a great coach and so does Anae Saturday night. I don't know what happened at Virginia, but am very hopeful that was the fluke and the Texas game shows us the "real" 2013 BYU team.

I don't put this win from my fan perspective in the same category as Miami or Oklahoma at Jerry World, but it is right up there with the second tier.

That was entertaining watching the offense and defense.

What do you mean by "elite?" All time elite, definitely not in that category.

they are second tier elite, not top tier. Maybe along with the georgias of the world, florida, etc. The cream of the crop would include Alabama, Notre Dame, SC, Oklahoma, Michigan, Ohio State. Using measuring sticks that I listed previously. I dont count Princeton and Yale and other schools that dont play football anymore and only played it when there were around 20 teams playing at all.

woot pointed out all time wins, which would put Texas in the same category as elite NBA coaches Lenny Wilkens, Don Nelson, and Bill Fitch. And of course, you would have to discount their win loss record to take into account that Texas has historically played D2 schools to pad both its win and loss record. SC and notre dame have never played a D2 school, so that should be taken into account. If SC or Notre Dame played a D2 school once a year or every other year, you could probably add 50 or so wins and remove 50 or so losses (just a guess, but you get my point) and who knows what the improved win loss record would have done to their respective chances to play for even more titles and win even more Heismans?

Besides hats and t shirts, what metrics are you using to put Texas in the same class as those other schools? Texas is a great program, dont get me wrong, but the "fertile recruiting grounds of Texas" is, as I mentioned, the biggest myth in college football. Unless you want to sell a lot of hats.
