If you don't count total national championships, total heismans, total dynasties over various decades, changing the face of college football by basically forcing the SEC to racially integrate vs being one of the last major schools to racially integrate, total players sent to the NFL, total alums that have played in superbowls or won superbowls, student athlete performance in the Olympics, and about 20 other things, then I agree that Texas is very close to SC in terms of history.

Perhaps the only bigger urban legend in sports besides NYC being a basketball Mecca is the Texas talent pool depth. Add up all the national titles and heismans won by all of the Texas schools and compare them to the traditnal powers from SEC, SC, B10. What a joke. the State of Texas is the biggest underachiever in all of college football. An entire state that has done so little with so much.

Peterson is an Oregon guy isn't he?

I think he was a WR coach there for a few years but he is from Yuba City, CA and graduated from UC Davis. In any case it supports my assertion that if he is ever dumb enough to take a lateral move from Boise (if leaving Boise for LA is even a lateral move) it will be for a west coast/PAC team.

Texas is very close to the level in terms of history and has its pick of texas recruits. Id say the jobs arent that much different.

While I agree with the general idea, Texas is #2 in all-time wins, with almost a hundred more of em than USC. So it's not quite as stark as all that. But still pretty stark.

I suppose the greatest contribution Texas has made to winning titles is helping the Sooners win so may of them with lots of Texas kids on their rosters.

Can someone explain to me something regarding Texas' personal foul on the punt to Falslev? Why was the ball placed around the twenty even after the assessment of the penalty. The ball went into the endzone. I was thinking it should have been a touchback plus a 15 yard penalty, with BYU starting with the ball on the 35.

Was it because it was a spot foul and they added 15 yards from where Falslev got crushed? If so, wouldn't it make sense for most teams to just crush punt returners when they're inside the 5 yard line and take the foul?

9 yard line + 15 = 24 yard line. Good question about crushing the punt returner. It didn't seem right at the time that the penalty was worth a few yards.

Good question. It's a bad rule. All it would take is for guys to start killing punt returners on a regular basis and the rule would be changed by next year.

It wasn't a personal foul--it was an interference penalty. I assume that if someone just took out the returner, they could call unnecessary roughness, which would put it at the 35?

I think we now agree that USC and Texas are pretty much one-note clothing retailers, with a sideline business of playing mediocre football, despite the fact that they have access to great athletic (and presumably textile design) talent. So now the comparison between the two is merely haggling over location, and population migration trends tell us that USC is not winning that battle. But hey, at least they merely share a name with a common male prophylactic rather than having a logo that looks like the entire female reproductive system, so there is that.
