I think you overlook some excellent public schools. One of my kids turned down BYU for Texas A&M and he made the right choice for his engineering major. Another kid is at BYU and turned down A&M which I think was the right choice for his major; but he would have gone to U. of Texas had he gotten accepted. And I'm just considering Texas which is behind California when it comes to excellent public universities. In short, there are a lot of good schools between the Ivies/MIT/CalTech/Stanford and BYU (including Penn St.). Having said that, BYU is an incredible value. Maybe, that's what you're trying to state - I do agree with you that if a kid has scholarship at Stanford, the search is over. I'd just expand that to UT, Cal, Michigan, etc. and Texas A&M for some programs and if the student wants to live in Texas post-graduation. The Aggie network in Texas is impressive.Originally posted by Topper View PostIt's a tough crowd, but if you can make it in CS, you can make it anywhere.
For LDS kids, other than Stanford, the Ivies, the Academies, Cal Tech or MIT, I can't see much trumping BYU. In short most kids won't have the option to go to those other institutions. That was my awkward way of saying that.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

Denver Broncos fan? Daddy likey.Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss
There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

So this is how ESPN ranks our recruits: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/fo...2&action=login
The player that seems most underrated relative to his offers is definitely Leiataua. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I love this class. I think the biggest get on the offensive side of the ball though is getting Jordan Leslie. Based on what he has already done against D1 competition, to me that easily equates to a 5* signing because he simply is a can't miss guy. I think Bronco and his staff should be given a ton of credit for this class. I am pretty pumped with the fire power we brought in that can help immediately on the offensive side of the ball.

I still can't get over this, makes me laugh.
Two weeks ago (right before Blackmon tripped to BYU) he didn't want to attend Utah because they wouldn't guarantee him a chance to start.
Today he wants to go to Utah so bad that he is faxing in random LOIs that are being rejected.
When Martzen says that is not possible you can't reject an LOI that is an NCAA violation, Ute Insider Thomas Karren says it was back in December.
So he didn't want to attend Utah because of Scott and Anderson, but he tried to fax in an LOI in December. Martzen debunks that myth again stating Blackmon was not eligible as a mid-year enrollee.
Karren pulls the "That is my story and I stand by it" defense.
Classic.
The worst part is seeing the Ute fans on this board that regurgitated the "Blackmon wants a guarantee to start and didn't get that at Utah" are the same ones saying "He wanted to go to Utah so bad he faxed in an LOI this morning"
Add that to Whit calling Barton the highest rated recruit he has ever had per the recruiting services. Then when he was asked about a mid 70s ranked class he says he doesn't pay attention to the recruiting sites.
Haha.
Great day to be a Cougar, rough day to be a Ute.*Banned*

Koroma and Rodriguez are both from Allen HS in Texas. In my view, Koroma will be an excellent center after putting on some weight at the next level. Allen HS plays a similar offense as BYU but with a better QB. Karoma's parents are from Africa and he's a first generation American; maybe BYU is hoping for some Ansah magic.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostKoroma is too short to be anything other than a center. I know the coaches love his aggression and quickness. He did not have a lot of offers though, UNM, Arkansas State and UTEP were pretty much it.
It looks like Andrew Rodriquez is not headed to BYU unless he walks on.
Was surprised to hear about Andrew Rodriguez possibly transferring. Rodrriguez really wanted to go to BYU after high school but didn't receive an offer and was recruited as a walk-on. So I doubt he gives up his scholarship at Houston to walk-on at BYU. But I could see him transferring if BYU offered. However, Rodriguez has battled injuries both seasons at Houston.Last edited by Paperback Writer; 02-05-2014, 05:17 PM.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. Before I make fun of you, please clarify did you just say Allen runs a similar offense as BYU but with a better QB? Are you calling a HS qb better than Taysom Hill?Originally posted by Paperback Writer View PostKoroma and Rodriguez are both from Allen HS in Texas. You might want to take a look at Allen's QB (Kyler Murray) offers before you make fun of me. He's only a JR so he has yet to commit. I've seen both Murray and Taysom Hill play, and yes, I'm calling Murray the better QB.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostBefore I make fun of you, please clarify did you just say Allen runs a similar offense as BYU but with a better QB? You are an idiot. Peyton Manning as a jr. in high school was not as good as Taysom right now. How many ans with big offers flame out? Taysom has a proven body of work.Originally posted by Paperback Writer View PostYou might want to take a look at Allen's QB (Kyler Murray) offers before you make fun of me. I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

I saw a junior high kid in a similar system. He has offers to all the top high schools, he is better than talky-talky!Originally posted by Sizzle View PostHe looks like a college kid playing against a bunch of Jr High kids.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!
