There is a chance that (former) Nebraska safety Harvey Jackson will transfer to BYU. He has one year of eligibility left and would be available to play in 2014 if he graduates from Nebraska as planned this Spring. Jackson started the first several games in 2013 for Nebraska before being moved to a back-up role. He still played a lot and recorded 33 tackles in 2013.

IMO, he should be able to contribute at BYU and is capable of starting depending on BYU's existing depth. Was kind of surprized he opted to transfer but is doing so with the blessing (and encouragement?) of Bo Pelini who has released him from his scholarship. Rumor was that he was coming to Provo for a visit soon - maybe he already has.

In summary, Jackson is a decent player. Very athletic. Should at least help with safety depth at BYU this season. Also, he's from Texas!

Probably a good move for both schools. Supposedly while he's really good at run support and coverage, his weakness is one-on-one coverage. Nebraska's scheme apparently relies heavily on man coverage, while ours does not. So his weakness is less of an issue at BYU, while his strength will be very welcome. This is one of those win-win-win situations, it seems.

I also love that we're not relying on him to come in and be a starter. Good, quality depth.

Probably a good move for both schools. Supposedly while he's really good at run support and coverage, his weakness is one-on-one coverage. Nebraska's scheme apparently relies heavily on man coverage, while ours does not. So his weakness is less of an issue at BYU, while his strength will be very welcome. I think Jackson will do well in BYU's defensive scheme. He's a decent player with no character issues. I was surprised that he transfered since Nebraska has a safety spot open. But there was a position change this spring for another player and he received a lot of accolades in the press at safety after the position switch. Also, there is some young, unproven talent at safety (who always get accolades in the Husker press). Nebraska also has a new defensive secondary coach this year as they lost their old coach to LSU. My guess is that Jackson figured he would be buried on the depth chart and started looking for options. Maybe Bo has some type of relationship with Bronco. I think it's a win-win. BYU gets a good player that Nebraska couldn't really utilize and Nebraska gets an open scholarship slot that they need. It's the least Nebraska can do until they schedule a return visit to Provo after scheduling BYU to open the 2015 season in Lincoln.
