Recruiting 2014

Sometimes I feel like we're the safety school for a lot of non-LDS schools. We scout them early, make an offer while they're under-the-radar, they commit because we're the best program to offer, and then another school in a good conference picks up on them after their own higher priority recruits don't come through and the kid bails on us.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I get that. I just am surprised that there's someone out there that thinks Purdue is a better place to come play football. Purdue is a dumpster fire in college football.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostSometimes I feel like we're the safety school for a lot of non-LDS schools. I'm pleased we're seeming to identify some under the radar guys even if they're getting poached the last minute. Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

I think the culture (or perceived culture) of BYU probably has something to do with it. It's a great school with a good football program but completely different than anything they're used to.Originally posted by The_Douger View PostI get that. LOL at Cougar fans thinking a non-LDS, african-american chose Purdue over BYU because of "football." Utah loses out in recruiting to crappy teams like Boise, Washington St, and Minnesota: and we aren't even saddled with a Victorian-era honor code!Originally posted by The_Douger View PostI get that. purdue gets pretty mediocre results on the field, which sounds a lot like BYU as of late.Originally posted by The_Douger View PostI get that. I just am surprised that there's someone out there that thinks Purdue is a better place to come play football. Purdue is a dumpster fire in college football.

purdue plays in a well known conference.
you can have sex and drink alcohol at purdue without running the risk of your name in the newspaper and losing your scholarship.
purdue doesn't put a lot of players into the NFL, BYU sucks at doing this also under bronco.
purdue is in a pretty bland location, BYU is in Provo.
you can have sex at purdue and not get into trouble.
what is it that you don't understand??Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

alabama has had a couple of kids flipped this recruiting season, one of them the top ranked QB in the country according to some ranking systems. Alabama also stole a QB from Florida state, the national champs. I know SC has had a few kids decommit over the past few weeks. It happens to every school and in fact I would venture that it happens more to the bigger programs because they are targeting the best players. The difference is that they compensate for the poaching by doing poaching of their own.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostSometimes I feel like we're the safety school for a lot of non-LDS schools. i haven't noticed an inordinate amount of flipping away from BYU over the last several years, the past few days notwithstanding. In fact, if anything I am pretty happy at the low level of flipping that happens to BYU. Of course, I don't count kids that weren't ever really committed, such as Mama for example (not saying you are counting mama as a flip).
byus problem is that it doesn't seem to have very good recruiters overall. So when BYU loses a flip, they don't compensate as often by stealing someone else away. Also, I wonder how much they do to keep a kid nice and warm after he has committed, versus just assuming he is on board and only contacting him rarely.
another huge problem is that you aren't allowed to bang at BYU. Huge problem.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

I had a lot of sex while at BYU and never lost my scholarship nor did I get kicked out
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I assume you were married. I was horrified when my father inisted I go to BYU until I realized I was getting married and I had already committed to having someone watch my every move. BYU would be no problem.Originally posted by Moliere View PostI had a lot of sex while at BYU and never lost my scholarship nor did I get kicked out

They're a bad program that's never on TV and is one of the worst two or three teams in that conference and we can't convince him to stay with us.I'll just add that Purdue was on TV plenty in 2013 with games against Notre Dame and Wisconsin (sound familar?) as well as Nebraska, Michigan St., Ohio St., and Penn St. In fact, every Purdue game in 2013 was televised including games against Indiana St. and N. Illinois. Purdue may be a terrible team playing in a weak conference with many problems to correct, but TV exposure is not one of them.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View Postpurdue gets pretty mediocre results on the field, which sounds a lot like BYU as of late.

Married students is another thing that probably makes it weird for non-lds kids. Walking onto a campus where a bunch of kids are married is really bizarre. Creeps me out every time I got to a football game.Originally posted by Moliere View PostI had a lot of sex while at BYU and never lost my scholarship nor did I get kicked out

So the big recruiting weekend is down from 7 players to 4.
And here's a list of who BYU is still after:On the same day running back commit Cedric Dale flipped his commitment to Purdue, another recruit seems to be cancelling his BYU visit. This time, it’s three-star Georgia cornerback Kiante Walton. Much like Ronald Monroe, Walton has received a lot of late recruiting attention. Originally committed to Georgia Southern, he switched his commitment to Appalachian State soon after being offered. Aside from a recent BYU offer, Kiante has also received offers from Missouri, Kansas State, and Army.
And like Monroe, who cancelled his visit to BYU to instead trip to Vanderbilt, Walton was also slated to visit BYU this coming Friday
Read more at http://www.loyalcougars.com/2014/01/...BHf2H81h7Eh.99Taking into account the players being pursued and the positional targets, BYU’s current player board, in order of priority, probably looks something like this:
OL Damien Mama (would not count against 2014 scholarship total)
WR Devon Blackmon (visited Boise State Monday)
S Courtland Sutton (four BYU coaches in home last week)
CB Kiante Walton (if still in the picture)
S Jordan Schlueter
DL Jaterrius Gulley (BYU coaches visited home again Monday)
OLB Sunia Tauteoli
WR E’Lon Mack
OL Harry Warner
Other WRs (Jake Pace, Tanner Redding, Jordan Washington)
Other QBs (Chipper Lucero, Nikita Zamora)So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.
