I realize that is where the discussion came from. I'm talking about how I'm confused that both sides seem to care so much about an Oregon flame out. Hey in the same year, Oregon had 2 4-star receivers transfer. Maybe he will be dominant like Tacoi Sumler at Appalachian State. As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

The platoon under-performed last year, and it appears the coaches were set upon plugging holes. If we lost our best receiver, and did nothing, the prospects of improving much would be dim. However, if we give Taysom a few more options, it might open up the offense quite a bit. We shall see, but Kurtz has good credentials, Leslie has proven he can be reliable, then the others should make it interesting. If they were not better than what we had, it was worth the effort. We shall see. I like the effort and hope the coaches selected ones who will help. My suspicion is at least one will perform and become a fan favorite, one might contribute and another may disappoint, but overall a good average.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostDespite cougjunkie's attempts to talk up the amazing returning WRs for BYU, you don't take 2 JC transfer WRs and a player with only 1 year of eligibility unless you have some serious talent problems at the position.
BYU's YAC last year was disappointing. One or some should help."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Look at the LDS kids that have gone to USC. Besides Havili, how many have really had great success there? They play special teams and get spot time in the games. Then they xfer to BYU and play a lot. I'd rather play more. It goes to show the talent differential between USC and BYU because Warner's one of our best gets and on USC he's probably their last scholarship player.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostHe is LDS. I don't understand why anyone turns down an offer from USC to go to BYU. It just doesn't make any sense. I would say the same thing about turning down an offer from USC to play for Utah. Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

Remember that silly conversation about BYU coaches naively focusing too much on Utah recruits? The recruiting map is an interesting rebuttal: http://byucougars.com/m-football/201...ng-day-central

USC would have been thrilled to take Warner. I think their low-effort pursuit of them had more to do with the fact that he was a heavy BYU lean this entire time. In retrospect, his last second mid-week SC visit was clearly a courtesy thing, most likely.Originally posted by The_Douger View PostLook at the LDS kids that have gone to USC. I don't understand turning down Stanford, an Ivy League school or perhaps a military academy if that is your druthers, but a degree from USC is not that much different than one from BYU. I suppose we could extend that further to a few other elite schools, such as Cal Tech or MIT but they don't field competitive athletics for the most part.
You can have a comparable degree, be amongst the tribe and maybe get to see something new."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Interesting how they are almost all from mild climates. I hope they all bring a warm coat.Originally posted by Jacob View PostRemember that silly conversation about BYU coaches naively focusing too much on Utah recruits? I see why BYU fans are really excited about Kurtz and Leslie. Kurtz had legitimate offers as a JC guy. Oregon and USC don't make serious runs at JC-players unless they are great talents. I'm really jealous of Kutz.Originally posted by Topper View PostThe platoon under-performed last year, and it appears the coaches were set upon plugging holes. Leslie has performed at the same level of BYU with his time at UTEP, so you can expect him to contribute.
As for Blackmon, he flamed out once at the DI level in Oregon. He was being offered by lower tier programs (BYU, Utah, Boise St, and Fresno St). Maybe he ends up being good, but he is far from a guarantee. Reminds me of Ute fans that were so excited over Aiona Key because he was a 4-star out of high school. As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

I'm not sure about the individual players going to Utah from the state but I'm jealous you have in-roads in Florida.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostI see why BYU fans are really excited about Kurtz and Leslie. To be fair, he also had offers from mid to lower tier PAC 12 teams too in Washington, Arizona, and Cal. Also Kstate and Illinois.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostI see why BYU fans are really excited about Kurtz and Leslie. Kurtz had legitimate offers as a JC guy. All three of those schools have historically been better at identifying and using receivers than BYU. So beating those schools out for that position encourages me. Would I rather we beat out Florida State, Alabama and USC? Of course, but that won't happen on a regular basis."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

The degree is not the issue here. The issue is at USC you can play at the highest levels of college football.Originally posted by Topper View PostReally?
