I would bet the reason they won't do either of these is the possibility of having endless games when two really Ds are pitted against each other. That's a real concern, I suppose.
Maybe the rule could be no kicks until triple overtime. That means each teams gets two shots at scoring a touchdown before any kicks.

I like this. Kickers are assholes and should never be trusted.

          • We had a connecting to flight in Denver that changed crews in Milwaukee. As such half the plane was wearing Badger gear, most with the Rose Bowl shirt. Pretty cool that they were all repping their school like that in defeat. Though I did hear two guys talking about Wilson's "stupid ass" play at the end of the game.

            • VT was robbed last night. No way that TD pass should have been overturned there at the end.

I just realized that I didn't even watch the Sugar Bowl. In fact, I forgot it was on last night.

Looks like we didn't get a single post here last night about the game. I think my hypothesis is accurate: Cuffers were down on bowl games this year. On the whole, nobody seems to care as much as in previous years. I imagine there is a strong correlation between one's own team doing well and overall interest in the entire bowl season. This year, it appears that neither fanbase was terribly enthused about the season's results or the respective bowl game.

I would anticipate some interest in the title game next week, though.

I think it is also because the Sugar Bowl and the Orange Bowl have some lousy match ups. I knew it was on last night but didn't care to watch. Same tonight.

You will see no LSU bravado from me on Monday. Given the choice between watching the game live and hobbling around the Diz with the kids, I will do the latter. I will be following the game though.

It was the right call. Live, I was skeptical. After the first replay, it looked like a catch. The second angle confirmed that it wasn't. Still, I said at the time that I wouldn't mind if it wasn't overturned because it was so close and the WR made such a great play on the ball. Nevertheless, the ball clearly moved when it hit the ground, which by rule means it wasn't a catch. This problem is compounded by the fact that the ball was still moving after the receiver was out of bounds. Either way, no catch. Hemingway caught one against Iowa that was a lot closer to being a catch and it was still overturned (and ultimately was one of the main reasons Michigan lost that game, along with a blatant PI in the endzone on the last play that was missed).

The political junkies among us were fixated on the Iowa caucuses. That might account for some of the lack of comment, but by and large I think you are right. Once our own bowl games were over, the interest was down.

There wasn't a single post about the Sugar Bowl last night. Not even by woot who I think is the only person that likes Michigan on this board.

Iowa has many faults. But please don't blame Iowa for this season's bowl game malaise.

                        • Like DDD, I didn't even realize the Sugar Bowl was being played last night. With all the talk about the fumble, I kind of wish I had seen it.

That wasn't even close to "indisputable evidence" required to overturn. His elbow hit the ground first and the ball was secure when it hit the ground. It was a terrible call.
