All I can say is that I'd like to think I wouldn't be so afraid of losing my job that I would walk away from a 10-year-old boy who was being raped in the shower, and then neglect to follow up to make sure it didn't happen again. How much clout did this Sandusky guy have that he could scare people into looking the other way from something that heinous?

I can't either. My first call is to the cops to let them know they have 30 minutes to be there.Originally posted by venkman View PostAmen. I'm trying to clean up my language lately, but what a sick fuck this guy is. He uses his position of respect and authority to set up a charity so that he can have easy access to young boys. I have a ten year old boy. I can't promise I wouldn't kill someone who did this to my son.Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

My thoughts as well. I would like to think I would come over and beat the shit out of the guy naked or not... The fact the GA quickly left and got out of there while a poor 10 year old boy was being raped is I hope something that will keep him sleepless the rest of his life.. Despicable...Originally posted by cowboy View PostAll I can say is that I'd like to think I wouldn't be so afraid of losing my job that I would walk away from a 10-year-old boy who was being raped in the shower, and then neglect to follow up to make sure it didn't happen again. I'm with you on this. These things bring out an anger/vengeance in me that I really don't like. It is the one situation where I am at least ambivalent on the issue of prison rape. A punishment that fits the crime.Originally posted by Sullyute View PostAfter reading the grand jury testimony, this is the mildest of punishments that he should receive.
There is a very specific reason why I have not looked up the perp in my case. I could probably find him through peoplesearch. But the statute has long since run (an issue for another day) and while I'd like to face him down, I am not sure I wouldn't kill him. I mean that literally.Awesomeness now has a name. So let's just lock them all up including the AD and Paterno based on the grand jury indictment.Originally posted by Top Ute View PostGood. Now we know your opinion on this matter means jack shit.

if the allegations are true, the situations at USC, Ohio State or Miami pale in comparison. Penn State's reputation will be tarnished for a long-time and Sandusky ruined lives and negatively affected generations.
If I'm a recruit for Penn State, I begin to review my options immediately. Sad times for the Big 10 and a school whom many held in high regard.Last edited by Scorcho; 11-07-2011, 01:15 PM.

The recruits that have been contacted seem surprisingly solid so far. I'm sure that will change if this results in football sanctions (I doubt it will).Originally posted by Scorcho View Postif the allegations are true, the situations at USC, Ohio State or Miami pale in comparison. I also read the report, and it's quite horrifying. It's probably already been pointed out that the GA who discovered the shower rape is now the receivers coach at PSU. It may very well be that everyone was just trying to avoid tipping the ladder as they climbed it, and therefore did the bare minimum. The two admins certainly share the most blame, and I doubt that more criminal charges will be brought, but it seems likely that PSU will want to part ways with more than just those two.
The university president's statement is terrible. Declaring "unconditional support" for those guys, without even a mention of sympathy for the kids and their families seems like a big mistake.

I get your opinion. I don't get your defense or absolving of Paterno, based on your interpretation of the letter of the law. In case you've been living under a rock for the last 50 years, Paterno has been about and preached the importance of more honorable living. He (and Penn State) set the bar high by spending millions perpetuating this belief that PSU was "different."Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostSo let's just lock them all up including the AD and Paterno based on the grand jury indictment.

PSU is not unlike a certain other university we're all familiar with, and one with which you bash with impunity. (To be fair -- and I challenge you to be so to yourself and read the grand jury findings -- I've done my share of bashing of BYU as well, but I can call a spade a spade and say that BYU gets it right far more often than most other universities when it comes to how it emphasizes collegiate sports). And you're trying to tell us not to rush to judgment? That's beyond rich.
Very few people are suggesting Paterno stand trial or face jail time for his lack of action. But he absolutely has to pay a price. The evidence and claims are too damning, too revolting, too sick. Just as importantly, too numerous. Should we spell it out for you? On second thought, out of respect to others participating in this thread, I won't.
There is zero chance that many additional more lives will not be further damaged. Have you not been paying attention to the damage other monolithic organizations like PSU have suffered in trying to cover up allegations of this kind? Jerry Sandusky is as much a millstone for Paterno and PSU as was clerical celibacy for the Catholic Church. I don't think John Paul II couldn't done much about his millstone, but I know for certain that Paterno could've done more with his.

I predict this will galvanize the football recruits. The "us against them" mentality. This includes parents that have NFL stars in their eyes for their linebacker sons. People have weird priorities.
I'm also not convinced that the NCAA doesn't get involved to some degree, as this is an easy way for them to appear actively involved for the common good, when in reality, as HFN pointed out, they have been using their precious time figuring out which player received a tattoo or gave away a jersey in violation of "the integrity" of college athletics.
This will haunt PSU for a long time. It will be the only thing the media wants to talk about. I see no way JoePa remains because every question will revolve around his inactions (rightfully so). It will be the focus of every interview, every discussion. At least with a new coach and new AD, they can quickly and correctly say, "I can't answer any of those questions, I was not here, I was not involved in any way, but I universally condemn the behavior and the inaction." if none of the characters are still at the school, the media can't really ask those questions over and over. Practicality calls for a total house cleaning, starting at the top. And this is only the tip of the iceberg. Wait until the victims start suing the State of Pennsylvania, the University, and anyone else.
At the risk of hyperbole, this is probably the worst sports-related scandal of our lifetime.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.
