This is another reason why ND is a better fit for the Big 10.

    (oh, that was low).

I get the feeling that there's more than meets the eye to this post.

We have been able to openly discuss it so openly. You have to concede that point.

I think I said strictly speaking. Strictly speaking, the story is not about Paterno, so far as we know at this time.

You can quibble whether or not the story is about Paterno. It's undeniable that he's a central character within the story.

I just read through the Grand Jury Report. I was shocked at how young most of the reported victims still are. To think that this guy has had access to young people through his charity since at least 1977 is horrifying.

Looks like Jerry Sandusky actually wrote a book that he titled "Touched". Yikes.

Yeah that was his editor's suggested compromise. The original title was "Ass Raped"

How much clout did this Sandusky guy have that he could scare people into looking the other way from something that heinous?
That is what I am thinking too. Duty to report or not, the guy saw it with his own eyes and did nothing in that moment? That is difficult for me to understand.

This is what condemns Paterno, in my eyes. He is one of the most respected people in college sports yet, by his own admission, someone who was visibly upset by what he saw reported a crime, and Paterno did nothing but the bare minimum. He didn't ask questions as to the extent of what was observed, didn't take steps to protect the innocent, and didn't follow up with the people to whom he reported to ensure that the matter was resolved. He may be absolved legally, but these are not the actions of someone who deserves the respect that Paterno has heretofore enjoyed.

Exactly. That is something very troubling about this story and it's hard to know what to make of it. A graduate assistant, probably recently graduated form playing DI football, sees a kid being raped by a middle aged man in a locker room at Penn State, and runs away (albeit horrified?)? Why wasn't he physically attacking the abuser, condemning him, and yelling for help?

                          • The topic of thread is sickening. I cant imagine not immediately going to the police and trying to put that animal behind bars.

The thing I am struck by is how brazen his behavior was. In the locker room shower? The frequency and scope of his abusive behvaior may be absolutely shocking when all is said and done.

Paterno's run is over. He shoudl resign for himself and even more for all those persons affected who will find solace in his resignation. What a sordid story.
                            PLesa excuse the tpyos.
