  • What's the deal with Apo? Kid looks totally uninterested in being on the field.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

We'll see - maybe I'm too optimistic now being able to watch a guy who's willing to compete - but I think BYU can be pretty good with Nelson at QB.
Matthews had a really, really bad drop that would have been a decent chunk of yardage.

Riley went down and Heaps was about to get his chance. If Heaps had been interested in the game to know where his helmet was (it should have been on his head) there wouldn't have been a need to call a time out.

I'm not sure what's going on. Apo had three receptions. Maybe he's pissed that they are spreading it around.

Agreed. But if Riley would have just stayed down on the ground then there could have been an injury timeout instead of BYU having to call a timeout.

I think it is clear that Apo looooooooooves Jake and is butt hurt that Riley is the QB.

It was also on third down and killed the drive.

He stayed on the ground and the play clock was ticking. It seemed the coaches were waiting for an injury time out and it never came. I think we finally called it with a few seconds left.

We were sitting on the sides about 25 rows up from the team, watching heaps much of the game to see what he was doing, how he would react. He went over and congratulated the offense after scores, he spoke to players individually, he cheered and clapped. He was doing the right things (although I didn't see him talk to Riley once). He had his helmet on at the start of the game but my guess is that given how the offense was moving the ball, there was no legit shot to get into the game. If you noticed, he shadowed Lark the entire game. Lark had a ball cap on with a headset. I doubt Lark even brought a helmet onto the field. Doesn't mean he isn't interested in the game. Come on, now.

                    • The interceptions bugged me but not too much as they happen to every QB. What really bugged me is in the 3rd quarter when Nelson was about to get sacked and he put a balloon ball up in the air when he was landing on his back. That's a freshman mistake.

On the flip side I think Riley is smart enough to watch that film and vow to never to repeat the mistake.

I just finished rewatching the 4th quarter. I actually liked how Riley bounced back from the third quarter. There weren't a lot of opportunities but those he had were on target and efficient. I do not count the almost pick as that was Kariya tripping over the lineman. Had Kariya not tripped that would have also been a completion.

That was awful. I was surprised Apo did not get a flag for what looked to be offensive PI on that pass.

Ok ok, I stand corrected. However, it drives coaches nuts when they need a player in the game and he can't find his helmet. This goes double for the backup QB who should be standing at the ready.

I watched that last night before I fell asleep with the game on. It looked to me like the defender purposely punched Nelson in the gut.

I'll admit that my language took a turn towards the vulgar after that pass.

I really get the feeling Apo doesn't want to be here anymore, and not just because Riley is playing QB.
