Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky. The Utah-Utah State rivalry was once bigger than the Utah-BYU rivalry. Utah-Colorado once had a spirited rivalry, but it ended abruptly 50 years ago, and the game in November will be the first between the two schools since then.

I swear just about every Ute fan on this board hated Wynn last year.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Only because the geriatric crowd doesn't think it can change, will change nor do they want it to change!

Maybe, but that won't happen overnight.

That's the problem with eyewitness testimony. It can be so wrong.

I think the conference alignment will cause the minting of a new young generation of Ute fans who understand less and less why BYU is a big deal to those of us who went before. I think we are looking at a very long arc here but I think that the rivalry will be very much diminished in time.

I don't disagree. What I think is silly is the notion that we can simply declare the rivalry immediately kaput.

Correct. It will take some time before Utah fans realize that Colorado is a wretched rival. Something forced on them by a conference and network. A shotgun marriage to a notorious Buffalo program complete with appalling fans. It didn't take Nebraska fans very long to figure it out and they are delighted to be rid of Colorado. I don't understand why Ute fans are so willing to embrace the Buffaloes.

I think there are two scenarios that can make the Utah - Colorado "rivalry" meaningful within a couple of years.

First, both teams are good or the final game has PAC-12 championship game implications for both teams. Looking at Colorado's situation this isn't a likely scenario.

Second, Colorado beats Utah the first couple of meetings. Colorado fans are smug, unruly, and just all around bastards. They would throw it in Utah's face repeatedly. They would love this and Utah would hate the hell out of them.

But if it is business as usual for Colorado and Utah consistently beats them, I think it will take some time before this develops into a decent rivalry.

Ute fans want Colorado to be their rival because they know they can beat them. The Utes are running from BYU claiming the rivalry is done because they're worried about losing. What a bunch of pussies.

There are only two reasons why I believe a Ute fan would not want to play BYU anymore:

                                1. They have become lame BCS snobs who believe BYU is now beneath them (). The same BCS snobs that Ute fans have hated for the last 10 years.

                                2. They want only cupcakes in their non conference schedule and playing BYU might threaten a potential undefeated season.

                                Any other legitimate reasons?
