I don't think either of the reasons you list are legitimate. One could make a case for #2 from a strictly "best interests of the program" standpoint, but that wouldn't be applied just to BYU. Besides, the "best interests" argument can go either way.

Yeah, number 2 is more "legitimate" than number 1, but no Ute fan would admit to that reasoning. I really do believe that reason 1 is the true feelings of many Ute fans and it is pretty sad.

Yes, only the haters, but hey, there seem to be a lot of those.

#2? Sure there is a chance Utah loses, but since when has BYU meant an auto loss for Utah? The early 90's? 20 years ago? Come on.

            You want another reason? Here:

Utah has to play a 9 game PAC schedule. That leaves only 3 OOC games. Many Utah fans still enjoy the USU game and think it ought to be scheduled on occasion. It's also a rivalry and it's also a nice tune-up for PAC12 play. Utah would also like to schedule some "big names" once in a while.

There simply are not enough OOC games in a PAC12 conference to keep both BYU and USU on the schedule and still play other interesting games. USU is a state school and I think it makes sense that Utah helps them out once in a while with scheduling.

Keep BYU on the schedule. Make it an every other year proposal. Keep USU on the schedule. Make it an every other year deal, too.

I see no reason why Utah should waste 2 OOC games every year on playing in-state programs.

BYU fans come at this from the standpoint that they need to fill a 12 game schedule. Utah fans look at it from the vantage point that the U. only needs/has 3 OOC games to fill every year.

I'm in the camp of play BYU but not every year. I'd like to see USU occasionally, still. I'd like to see some other MWC rivals occasionally, too. Wyoming, Air Force, CSU, UNM, TCU... There are some long-standing series with other regional schools that I would like to see played....on occasion.

In addition to maintaining some relationship with other regional schools that we have played historically, I'd like to see Utah continue playing games like the Michigan, ND, etc.

It's hard to accomplish that if you waste one of your OOC games EVERY year with one school.

Both of your reasons are very BYU-centric. There are reasons, such as I posted above, that have very little to do with BYU.

An additional reason would be that some people are just plain sick of the rivalry. It's beyond a rivalry....it's a dysfunctional relationship. Some people would like to see it toned down greatly and see playing the game less often as one way to turn it back into a rivalry and less of a co-dependent disease.

LOL.. What the hell? How in the world did you possibly get that from what I posted?

Your additional explanation seems to fall into number 2. Thanks.

Your additional reasons has a tad bit of merit. Your other long explanation really just falls under my original number 2. My reasons are BYU centric as much as they are keeping an incredible rivalry intact centric.

Seems that your implication with your 2nd reason is that Utah fans are scared of a loss. That's how the hell....

You really don't seem to be interested in any other reasons. You like your BYU-centric reasons and want to troll.

See above. I don't think it falls into that category at all. Explain. Or don't.

No, it won't, but I think at least for some Ute fans the transition has been underway for quite some time, and I don't believe it is just because Utah is now in the PAC-12.

                          HTF do you figure that?

Like I said, as a Utah fan I'd still like to maintain a number of historical series that Utah has played, continue playing USU on occasion AND GO OUT AND SCHEDULE SOME BIG NAME TEAMS, i.e. "potential losses."

Give me a break. It has nothing to do with your second "reason." It has everything to do with Utah having played, historically, a great number of teams in the region. In fact, it's the complete OPPOSITE of your first point. It's respecting where Utah came from and the history it has with those programs, BYU and USU included.

Utah cannot be all things to all people. It needs to shape it's own future. BYU should be part of that future, but it shouldn't be so important that Utah loses opportunities to play big name OOC games and continue with other regional and in-state series.

Granted, it is 3-2 BYU over the last five games, but it is 6-4 Utah over the last ten, and 11-9 Utah over the last twenty.

In any case, Utah could lose to BYU in September and still make it to the Rose Bowl.

                                3. Zoobs are the most insufferable and delusional people on the planet.

                                4. The realization that one does not have to care about BYU is incredibly liberating.
