2011 BYU Football Thread

On this point, as well as the KVN/Frazier debate, I'm not sure who starts, but I would expect that we'll see each of the following players get significant reps rotating this season:

KVN
Pendelton
Frazier (whom I would expect to play both OLB positions)
Kav
Ogletree
Austin Jorgensen

If I were guessing right now, my thought is that Ogletree and Kav probably start, but Jorgensen probably plays his fair share of snaps.

For sheer numbers sake, let's say everyone stays healthy. If you can keep KVN and Pendelton on the field for 75% of all defensive snaps, but rotate Frazier in for the remaining 50% (25 + 25) you help keep your playmakers on the field most of the game, but also help keep them fresh without losing much production. Same with the MLBs. The rotation won't be exactly broken out like that, but you get the idea.

That is also assuming everybody stays healthy. I'd expect some nicks and dings given some of their histories. Depth is a really good issue to have at positions like this.

Spencer Hadley has to figure in too, unless there is a RS in his future.

Sizz, I think you gotta get wagner in there too. He'll probably get regular reps as well.

I think there will absolutely be other guys who factor in the rotation. I'm not as big of a Wagner fan as some on the board are, as I'm probably tainted by memories of his older brother. We've already heard that Ziggy will likely see some time. More than anything I was just hoping to show that you can still find significant snaps for quality players without keeping your best players off the field too much.

Hague is a stud. He was an incredible high school safety and probably should have played the position from the beginning. Do not be surprised if he beats out Uale.

I think everybody knew this but Hague. He wanted to play RB, and BYU obliged. I really wish he would have made the switch last year during fall camp. He would likely be the starter IMO. He is very physical from the safety spot an I would have loved to have him get some reps, even in practice, alongside Andrew Rich.

Sounds like Drew Phillips will be eligible. I'm guessing we see him midseason when the schedule softens and we're rolling over teams.

At the time Heaps signed, it was funny hearing all the UW fans around here say "we'll it worked out, because we got Montana." We I saw Montana at the UW spring game, I laughed. He could be a solid college QB, but he's not even close to being in the same ballpark as Jake.

But, oh, what an option that can be. Apo caught the pass to create the most scintillating moment of three days at BYU camp: a 70-yard strike along the right sideline from good friend Jake Heaps. It had offensive lineman racing to be the first to greet Apo, then turn around and salute the quarterback who chucked the ball nearly 60 yards in the air before it reached his target's hands at chest-level. The sideline players went nuts. Even the defensive coaches couldn't exactly get on anyone's case.

Mendenhall, in his seventh year, already utilized the indoor practice facility for the practice that stretched through 1 p.m.'s 90-degree heat.

Doesn't Mendenhall realize that 90 degree heat is nothing compared to what the team will be playing in their first two games?
