Seems like a no brainer to me if you want to be a big time team.

I read that Frazier started out this year on some LB award watch list. How could that be?
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

The first thing that came to mind was Howard Cosell:

"What are you prepared to do?" - Jimmy Malone

        "What choice?" - Abe Petrovsky

I think JJ is on the Doak watch list as well and he's going to end up getting fewer carries than Q.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Junior weak side linebacker Ezekiel 'Ziggy' Ansah might not have as much practical experience as, say, Kyle Van Noy or Jameson Frazier when it comes to football. However, after the first three days of fall camp, one wouldn't know because of how well he's performed. BYU fans should expect the enigma and mystique of the Ghana native to continue as fall camp moves forward.

An absolute no-brainer. Starting Frazier over KVN wouldn't quite be equivalent to starting Kellen Fowler over Andrew Rich, because Frazier can actually play, but you don't sit somebody as talented and athletic as Kyle Van Noy. Van Noy has the tools to become one of the best, if not the best OLB BYU has ever had. A rich man's Bryan Kehl.

I think I am justified in getting pissed off when some punk BYU student tells me to shut up when I say the home schedule needs to improve. He goes to the games subsidized by others. No wonder college students are liberals. They don't know how the real world works.
I just subsidized my female BYU student's all sports pass today (along with a guest pass). She was very gracious and said thank you. I think you'd like her. She's not a punk, but may be liberal.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Frazier is no slouch, he came on strong last year. But I agree this is a no brainer.

                    Two questions:

                    1. Who has the final say on starters/rotation? The DC/HC or the position coach? I'll answer my own question and say they answer is pretty clear, but I'm curious about the dynamic. I wonder how much say Poppinga and Howell have.

                    2. I thought Pendleton played SAM and Frazier played Will, no? (The DSOB article has it switched).

**Note: I rarely believe hype based on fan based blogs/articles, but it would be awesome if Ziggy pans out at OLB. I would love to see him on the zone blitz.

FWIW, Bronco also seems to agree with me.

"The first day he got here, he put us through drills, and got our footwork right," recalled redshirt freshman wideout Ross Apo. "Ever since then, we've been rolling."
"I watch every rep of every position group every day," Mendenhall said. "Just the precision, starting from their stance, to the way they stem the defensive back, to the way they break, to the way they catch the ball, to the way they finish when they catch the ball — the subtleties are showing up all over the place. They're catching the ball more consistently. So I think coach Cahoon is having an influence. It's a group that needs an influence. They're relatively young at some of the spots. They need maturity and development. I think they're responding well to him."

More questions and random musings even though we're only a couple days into fall camp.

                        1. I wonder if we'll see more DB rotation than we've seen in years past. I'm happy to see Hague contributing, but I'm resigned to the fact that it'll be Uale to start the season. With that said, we don't face a good QB until the 3rd and 4th games of the season, so who knows what will happen by then. Also, what's happened to Preston Hadley? Robbie Buckner?

                        2. What happened to Tuiloma? Did he get lost in the Manu/Loni/Fuga shuffle? It seems like he was being mentioned regularly with Fangupo during Spring camp, but now we never hear his name. Bronco even talks about bringing Dulan off redshirt to add depth?

                        3. I wonder who mans the middle with Kav. Along with the DL, that's the bigger question for Ole Miss/UT.

On this point, as well as the KVN/Frazier debate, I'm not sure who starts, but I would expect that we'll see each of the following players get significant reps rotating this season:

                          KVN
                          Pendelton
Frazier (whom I would expect to play both OLB positions)
                          Kav
                          Ogletree
                          Austin Jorgensen

If I were guessing right now, my thought is that Ogletree and Kav probably start, but Jorgensen probably plays his fair share of snaps.

For sheer numbers sake, let's say everyone stays healthy. If you can keep KVN and Pendelton on the field for 75% of all defensive snaps, but rotate Frazier in for the remaining 50% (25 + 25) you help keep your playmakers on the field most of the game, but also help keep them fresh without losing much production. Same with the MLBs. The rotation won't be exactly broken out like that, but you get the idea.

That is also assuming everybody stays healthy. I'd expect some nicks and dings given some of their histories. Depth is a really good issue to have at positions like this.

Sizz, I think you gotta get wagner in there too. He'll probably get regular reps as well.

They're in the mix. Yesterday bronco said they've been rotating everyone in the secondary equally so far and trying to get a feel for what they have. I get the impression that there hasn't been a lot of separation so far, and as you said, we might see quite a bit of rotation in that group.

Hague is a stud. He was an incredible high school safety and probably should have played the position from the beginning. Do not be surprised if he beats out Uale.
