It’s not simply, recruit better, scheme better, or call better plays. BYU is going to have to accept that with their systematic limitations the ceiling is a great run once every 8-10 years. The base is going to be a lot of 5-7 to 7-5 seasons with a few 3-8 and 8-3 seasons thrown in the mix and a lot of growing pains to boot.

I’m open to a solution that doesn’t include KS Id just love to hear who that solution is because the bench of LDS coaches is about 3 deep.
Yes, this was basically the basis for what I said earlier as well. We are not going to become Utah and TCU that developed into teams that can consistently compete at the P5 level for championships. We are more likely going to become Stanford, Vanderbilt, and Northwestern. That is our more likely fate.

And it's always sad when the reason for someone keeping their job isn't because they're great, but because there just simply aren't any replacements at all...

His mistake has largely been lived down. He's a good recruiter and is loved by most of the players.
It should be prevented, name me another coordinator that has used the n word, and kept his job. Get out of here with the politically correct nonsense.

I was with a bunch of ex players recently and Scalleys name came up, the group got silent and one of the AA players said, I love MS but he shouldn’t be here right now to which a majority agreed.

It’ll be something that will follow him forever and something that will prevent a non-insignificant portion of recruits from choosing Utah. It was stupid to keep him.

I actually think KS is an above average coach for the current state of BYU.

I can’t imagine another coach doing that much better than he has since being hired. Is there someone out there that could squeeze 3 more wins total over the same time period? Doubtful.

          List of LDS guys:

Beck - dude has been awful this year at Syracuse in his first year as OC, never ran a program

Bronco - please no, how he left the program is unforgivable

MS - zero chance and horrible perceived cultural fit, has no experience outside calling Whitt’s defense

GA - he’s helping with schemes right now, is he even active?

JH - I’m sure he’s regretting his decision to come to BYU and has anyone ever on a struggling team been promoted from coordinator to HC?

Lance - only job he could land was a late camp BSU analyst job?

at least we know jay hill has run a team successfully, youre right limited options but maybe we open up the requirements

Lol that’s hilarious I’m thinking like ever and it literally happened at BYU, nice pull. BYU has a precedent of it working out before maybe the unique nature of the job and limited candidate pool makes it a possibility.

                • Is it just as simple as recruiting? All this phases on scheme and it doesn't matter because there are walknons everywhere? If we could somehow recruit a top 40 class this year and keep them from entering the portal, it would take like 4 years to compete.

The last 4 years has shown he can coach. He is an above average G5 coach. With his guys and his system he essentially dominated the MWC. If BYU was in the MWC during that same period he’d have landed us into a major bowl and would have the resume to take a variety of P5 jobs.

With those same guys and a step up in competition all of a sudden he’s inept. BYU was always going to finish in the bottom half of any P5 conference the B12 is no different. They have way worse players than Arkansas and smacked them on the road. In precious seasons they could heal and regroup while playing Wyoming and Colorado State or Idaho State, this year they regrouped on the road against Texas, TCU and West Virginia.

Honestly this year has been way better than it should’ve been.

Another great pull, might be a BYU unique scenario.

Almost always when a HC gets fired, a DC/OC takes over and almost always those dudes get cleaned out when the season ends and the school opens up their candidacy pool.

The guy that boosters were circulating rumors that the reason anytime BYU struggled offensively was because the quarterbacks couldn’t understand his pidgin accent?

i'm not convinced any of utah's coordinators, especially DCs are fantastic - it seems regardless of who KW plugs in there, they have a lot of success. iow, they are just running whit's defense so he can focus on other things - it seems to have not mattered who the face is, the defense always performs.

Exactly. Its been interesting to see how people love MS and give him so much credit for running Whitts D. I think it’s him jumping up and down on the sidelines.

How many times do those same people say, well KS never really ran his own stuff.
