Weren't we paying all walk-ons' tuition? That seems pretty decent-- is everyone doing that? Anyway, talking about Kalani being on the hot seat is funny. The first few years in the Big 12 are certainly going to be rough no matter whom is at the helm. I think he's doing ok with what he's got. We'll see what he does on the recruiting trail to level us up after year 1.

byu is supposed to be able to at least compete with the likes of tcu, wvu and iowa state. it's one thing to go 5-7 first year in the conference, it's another to not even compete with mediocre conference opponents at home, against back up QBs and frosh QBs. again, these are decent programs - it's okay to lose. that happens. but when you look like you don't even deserve to be on the same field as a 4-6 tcu team playing their back up QB, that's a problem. and if that were the only one of those games, it might even be somewhat understandable.

Kalani has won about as many games as folks can reasonably expect-any fair assessment of him must start with that reality. If they don't make a bowl game this year I would consider that a slight underachievement.

However, the product on the field indicates to me that if things don't change (let it be talent, right cleats, coaches who care more or are better at game planning, players focussing on assignments better in practice and film sessions or together songs with Kalani playing a ukulele-IDGAF) Kalani is closer to the end of tenure than the beginning. This year has had an alarming number of games where BYU did not look like they belong and I don't care what folks think about BYU admin-it isn't acceptable to them for BYU to perform the way it has way to often this season.

This is true, but had we come into this year with say Jaren Hall as a Senior, it's kind of a different ballgame, isn't it? Kalani has a few years to right the ship.

I feel like most of our teams from the past 5 years would have been more competitive than the team we are fielding right now. Our recruiting has taken a nose dive at the worst possible time. It's not just the QB. It's not just OL, although they are biggest culprits. I'd say virtually every position is the weakest that it's been in years. This bad team has been a few years in the making. It also feels like we missed really big on our transfer portal players.

I think we took the first step, but it was a cautious baby step. Everyone else has sprinted away re-upping each other with their NIL deals and BYU has just stayed with their little baby steps. They've been very adamant about not giving out individual NIL deals. They only want team ones where everybody gets the same share. From what I've heard BYU does next to little to help the players get their own NIL deals. You could say that sounds fair. But if other schools are spoon feeding huge individual NIL deals to players with little to no effort on their part, then that puts us in the back of the bus.

I dunno man. If slovis is dressed and ready, i'd much rather have him than Retzlaff. Oh well.
