We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Nebraska and Colorado didn't pay their full exit fees because there was the threat of litigation and the culpability of Texas was very much in question. In short, Texas and Missouri (among others) had been talking to other conferences as well which threatened the solidity of the Big 12. So it wasn't the unreasonableness of the exit fees, it was that other conference members were also in discussions that undermined the stabilty of the Big 12. When that happens, settlements are reached to mitigate the negative publicity that would come out of a lawsuit.Originally posted by Cougarmandias View PostThe problem with punitive damages is that they don't get paid if they're too unreasonable, which makes it hard for them to be punitive enough. Nebraska didn't pay their full punitives, Colorado didn't, and A&M isn't going too.
But TV revenue rights are property rights. The school can sell those and they're sold, even if the school leaves the conference. Same with game revenues. If each school grants its TV rights and other specified game revenue to the Big 12 for a specified term of years, that's probably enforceable. And it not only makes it very costly for any team to leave, it also means they have nothing to offer the conference they'd be leaving to.
You rasie a good point about TV revenue and property rights. When push came to shove in the summer of 2010, Nebraska asked Texas to pledge their media rights to the Big 12 and they would as well. Texas declined. But Nebraska was aware that this was the only way to be sure that Texas would stay in the Big 12 with Nebraska. Without such committment, Nebraska was concenred that it would pass on the Big Ten only to have Texas join the Big Ten or the PAC-12 without them.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

found this funny
other OU demands for staying in the Big 12 (plagarized this from a Shaggy Bevo thread):
- all the jackets from every Burlington Coat Factory.
- only flat head screwdrivers.
- a magic, ever flowing cornucopia of dicks to eat.
- freedom to expand into the Kansas and Missouri meth markets without fear of retaliation.
- a glass of hot fat. And the head of Alfredo Garcia.
- 80% of cough medicine manufactured in the U.S.
- naked pictures of Bea Arthur.
- the trailer ball must be universalized at 2 1/2 inches.
- rain
- the rights to the Ernest movie series.
- admission in AAU (no questions asked).
- whatever is left of the University of Missouri's pride.
- What they've always wanted: noodlin', legalized cock fighting, & beef jerky recognized as legal tender.
- incest legalized.
- reading ability not required for measuring athletes academic progress.
- OU demands that Matthew McConaughey report shirtless to David Boren's office at least 2 days per week to help run some errands.
- houses
- the Oklahoma panhandle becomes the official panhandle of the Big 12. The Texas panhandle must never be mentioned in a live broadcast.

Now hold it man... barring the high quality of Burlington Coat factory and distribution issues, all of the demands seem easy, but what have we learned time and time again... don't mess with Texas.Originally posted by Scorcho View Postother OU demands for staying in the Big 12 (plagarized this from a Shaggy Bevo thread):

Big 12 Board Meeting Thursday
Expansion also will be on the table for the presidents, the source said, with the three likely candidates -- BYU (independent in football/West Coast Conference in other sports) and Big East schools Louisville and West Virginia. Those were three of the five schools that the Big 12 athletic directors were charged to call when Texas A&M announced it was leaving. The lack of reports of BYU being considered for Big 12 membership sure is disturbing.Dodds said he likes the 10-team model the league currently has. He acknowledged the league is considering BYU as the 10th member.

LOLOne of the grandest benefits of the enlightenment was the realization that our moral sense must be based on the welfare of living individuals, not on their immortal souls. Honest and passionate folks can strongly disagree regarding spiritual matters, so it's imperative that we not allow such considerations to infringe on the real happiness of real people.

I believe religion has much inherent good and has born many good fruits.
