I nominate you to give it to him. That is, if you ever come back to the board.

Does Gallup conduct polls where the questions have 120 different answers?

Those numbers look correct for the PAC-12.

I'm not sure why anyone would think Stanford has any type of fan base. They don't. They have endowment, of course. But they don't have a fan base.

Stanford has 10,000 empty seats on Saturdays with the best QB in the country and a top 5 team. lol.

They have more fans of the Science Club than they do of the football team.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Yeah, a sample size of 1,000 would be pretty small for this kind of survey. I think you'd want at least 10,000, which is pretty pricey. Explains why we don't have the data.

Maybe the GSS could start asking about sports fandom? That would actually be pretty interesting information and might yield some surprising correlations.
I think, perhaps, the only person who hates BYU fans more than ute fans hate BYU fans, is Bronco Mendenhall.

Networks are signing billion dollar contracts. conferences are trying to convince networks to pay even more. You'd think one of them would have already done the work, no?

You could build a wall 50 ft high with all of the excrament eminating from the states of Oklahoma and Texas right now.

For those that were camping in my campground, we already knew OU and Texas to the PAC didn't make sense.

It won't make sense next year, either, so don't get any bright ideas, OU and UT.

This topic was covered in another thread earlier in the year. If I can threadjack for a moment...here is the bottom line:

The Bay Area is a NFL market. All the football oxygen in the media is used on pro teams. Stanford has an international alumni base, not local. Cal has local alumni. There are like 50K Stanford alums in the Bay Area, compared to 200k from Cal. The only people who root for Stanford are Steve Young, the late Bill Walsh and David Locke.

                        • I'm a friggin' genius. No, seriously.

Oklahoma's proposal for keeping the Big 12 together is the same one that I outlined upthread lo these many posts ago.

the changes: . . . requiring a commitment of rights of more than five years from conference schools, which would commit all of their game revenues to the Big 12 during that time and make moving to another league difficult to impossible.

The problem with punitive damages is that they don't get paid if they're too unreasonable, which makes it hard for them to be punitive enough. Nebraska didn't pay their full punitives, Colorado didn't, and A&M isn't going too.

But TV revenue rights are property rights. The school can sell those and they're sold, even if the school leaves the conference. Same with game revenues. If each school grants its TV rights and other specified game revenue to the Big 12 for a specified term of years, that's probably enforceable. And it not only makes it very costly for any team to leave, it also means they have nothing to offer the conference they'd be leaving to.

The only way out of this would be to vote to dissolve the Big 12 and/or have the Big 12 vote to return the rights to individual teams . So BYU still needs to carefully examine the voting protocols in the B12. But that aside, if the B12 adopts Oklahoma's proposal, BYU can feel pretty good about B12 stability for the next few years.

But you know it will be out there again next summer, and this time BYU will be allies with Baylor and Iowa State trying to keep the B12 together.

It will make less sense. The more time given, the more networks get off the ground.

Throw another log on the fire will ya.
