I guess I'm at the other end of the spectrum. I think indepence is far more interesting, simply for the greater variety of opponents. I don't watch a lot of non-BYU football, but I don't find myself any less interested in how BYU's current scheduled opponents are doing than I was in how MWC conference mates were doing. Next year, we're playing Virginia, Texas, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Boise State, and Georgia Tech. I honestly don't care who the other opponents are - BYU's never had a schedule that looks like this, and it excites me.Originally posted by Eddie View PostI agree that being in a conference is more interesting. Seeing what the standings are, being interested in how other teams are doing who play each other because it effects your team's position, etc. all have added enjoyment to me in the past.
I used to watch all of the BYU games, follow some of the other MWC games when a couple of teams in the top half were playing or even check in and if the scores were close watch for an upset. Then I'd also watch some of the big national games between highly ranked teams. It seemed like there was always a game on that had some interest for me. The past couple of years I've found myself less and less interested in games - which I suppose on the bright side has left more time for other things.
I guess I'm not up in arms about the home schedule, because I don't live there and go to the games. But I don't know that next year's (or 2014's) home schedule is any worse than a schedule including Colorado State, Wyoming, New Mexico, Utah State, and UNLV.
I really don't understand the complaints. This is the best option right now. By far.If we disagree on something, it's because you're wrong.

Seeing as how the MWC realistically has neither, it's not important to me. Were the situation to change such that all conferences had a guaranteed spot, or at least a strong possibility of getting a spot, my stance on conference affiliation might change. Until then, Indy in its current form is better than the MWC in its current form.Originally posted by Flystripper View PostI guess playoff or BCS access is not important to you?

Hard to argue with that sentiment. Sometime in the future I would hate to see us top 10...(which is doable in the foreseeable future but not 2013) and get locked out, which is what will happen as an independent.Originally posted by The_Tick View PostWhen we go undeafeated, or have a 1 loss team...then I will be worried.
Until then...we are our own worst enemy regardless of conference affiliation.Dyslexics are teople poo...

I really am enjoying the variety of teams being played. Re-reading my post, it may have come across as a complaint - but my intent wasn't to complain. In an earlier post I had said that long-term BYU may not be successful as an independent, but it is a better prospect than staying in the MWC. Someone mentioned preferring a conference, and I was responding to that.
I favor independence over the MWC. But I enjoy some of the long-term relationships of a conference too.

Happened in '96. But we made everyone look like idiots when Sark torched K State.
It will happen again.
