Unless you have a scholarship of course. Because then you are being paid to study.
The only time I ever did school work on the sabbath was when I had a paper due the next day.

It never is for humanity majors because they are just acquiring knowledge and we all know no one will ever get paid for any of it. For those chasing filthy lucre, however, like engineers, it is a grave sin.
      PLesa excuse the tpyos.

        Sounds like you were rationalizing.

General Authorities who are paid by the Church (monetarily as well as with Toyota Avalons) need to stop doing Church work on Sundays as they are in gross violation of the Sabbath apparently.

I wish BYU would do things like the Jazz with their home games -- basically avoid scheduling any games on Sunday as much as possible but if the NCAA Tournament or a conference tournament happens to fall on a Sunday go ahead and play and not ask for everybody else to accommodate your weirdness. I don't see what would be wrong with that, honestly. Why do we think we're better than everybody else and need a special Sunday rule?

That's how individual Mormons are supposed to act (politely and thoughtfully with respect to people of other religions who may not have the same Sabbath Day beliefs) so it seems like the institution of BYU could do that too. But that's just me.

I've purchased garments on the Sabbath.

Sunday play would be the last straw for some people, BYU is already pandering to the gays!!!

Speaking of BYU, gays, and Sunday, BYU choirs have sung in competitions on Sunday. I think the BYU Singers did a Saturday/Sunday competition in Ireland a few years ago.

I mean what do each of us do with work and Sunday? You avoid it as much as possible but if a situation comes up where Sunday work is required by your colleagues (or fellow conference schools) it's not admirable to refuse to work on Sunday, it's dickish.

I always studied on Sunday. It gave me a competitive advantage to a lot of the other students at BYU that wouldn't.

Scholarships (and fellowship grants) are typically tax-free and, therefore, not considered income. Other way to look at it is with a scholarships you are getting a discount on your tuition.

I tried to keep the whole weekend holy in college. I usually refrained from studying from sundown on Friday until Monday morning.

I never met anyone who had a no-Sunday study rule.

I dated a girl who had this rule. She'd wake up at 3am Monday morning to finish her studying.

My parents enforced this rule while I was in HS.

I vaguely remember a devotional with Bateman where he said that as students studying was our job and as such studying on Sunday was okay. Anyone recall this?

That's when I always did my study for religion classes. It was perfect.
