The Big 12 expansion groundswell

Why mythical? I thought that applied to old-time, pre-BCS champions who played weak schedules. You apply it to all champs because there was no real playoff?

Over the past 20 years Colorado accomplished more than any other school in the B12, other than UT, OU and Nebraska. They also had the second or third largest TV market in the conference and had a tradition of overall athletic department success. Few schools in the Big 12 could bring to the table what Colorado did and it's demonstrated by the current state of the conference. If the Big 12 was unhappy with Colorado, it's a Big 12 problem and not a Colorado problem. Letting them go so easily was a sign of leadership incompetence, conference dysfunctionality and foreshadowed a mass exodus of top programs.

It's also very telling that one of the best led conferences in CFB was happy to take what the Big 12 didn't want.

Omaha 680 already responded but I though I'd add some data. If one looks at W-L records, it shows that Kansas St. had surpassed Colorado over the past 20 years when evaluating Big 8 teams. Since the Big 12 has only 15 seasons of data (it hasn't been around for 20 years), the data shows that Texas Tech and Texas A&M (in addition to KSU) have been more successful than Colorado. And Missouri would have passed Colorado this year in the Big 12 stats. Given the current trajectory, it would have been only a matter of time before Oklahoma St. surpassed Colorado in the Big 12. That would have left Colordo in the bottom third of the Big 12 with Kansas, Iowa St., and Baylor. BYU replacing Colorado would have improved the Big 12. Here's some data.

And even if Kansas was perennially in last place in football (they aren't), their hoops program makes them 10X more valuable to the Big 12 than Colorado.

I figured it out. The PAC just wanted it's fans to be able to visit Pearle Street on game day. Really, it's the ONLY thing CU brings to the table.

In summary, the PAC wanted a championship game so they added two steaming piles of crap in order to get one. Good for them.
