SeattleUte and Tex are often on the same page. In many ways, they have the same view of LDS history, doctrine, orthodoxy, literalism, etc. Consequently, they both mock progressive LDS types, just from different sides of the room.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostThat was a great week. This just doesn't jibe with so much that was said, both on and off of here. This raises a lot more questions than it answers. Per multiple accounts, they were talking for months. They "didn't get very far"? They didn't discuss BYUTV? Really?Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostBecause he said as much. I watched part of the interview on TV last night and he said that while they had talks with the Big 12, they never got to the point of discussing TV contract issues. He then said that many fans have been passing rumors that demands related to BYUtv derailed the Big 12 talks, but that is simply not true.
I'm calling BS. Santos is right and Holmoe's lying through his teeth. Weak.At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Listened to the interview. Holmoe danced around a lot. I think he's spinning. We heard from insiders close to BYU sources and insiders close to Big 12 sources for the better part of a month that BYU and Big 12 were in all kinds of talks with specific information discussed about TV rights and exposure. I heard myself from a source (in real life not on the internet) in a way that validated generally the stuff that others said more specifically.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostThis just doesn't jibe with so much that was said, both on and off of here. Wait, why wouldn't there be pork? I knew I should have listened to General Conf, I always miss the important commandments.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostI've been trying to tell you Sunday play is the monster issue, the killer. If I were president of Baylor or whatever I might find it slightly inconvenient that no pork can be served at pre-game meals. But that would not be a deal breaker. Here you are asking 11 other schools to agree never to play a tournament game on Sunday. That's the ramifiction of what BYU is asking. Also, the no play on Sunday thing is extreme to most people, especially academics or intellectuals; it's kind of annoying. Most Christians aren't so narrow in their interpretation of the Sabbath. Finally, it's symbolic of the whole CULTure thing and a nice shorthand explanation for opposing BYU.Get confident, stupid

I'm all for tweaking yourOriginally posted by jay santos View Postlol in this interview Bronco saying the WAC schedule in November was tougher than the MWC November schedule.formerrival, but I don't think that's what he is doing there...he's just attempting to spin. Being honest though, just having Utah on the schedule in November made every MWC schedule we ever had more difficult than our 2011 November schedule. This speaks both to the formidible opponent Utah has become and how truly crappy this year's schedule was.

Not a whole lot of wiggle room there.Col. Klink: "Staff officers are so clever."

That's funny. If you look at the different ways this has been interpreted throughout history, I would say that the wiggle room is a mile wide and a mile deep. How strictly different religious groups define sabbath day observance is more a matter of tradition and culture than anything else.Originally posted by Flattop View PostUm, shouldn't they be?

Not a whole lot of wiggle room there."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

"Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates."Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostThat's funny. Your right, people interpret things differently. But maybe they're just rationalizing. It seems that tradition and culture become more important than keeping the commandments.Col. Klink: "Staff officers are so clever."
