The Big 12 expansion groundswell

It seems like the Big 12 has some moronic idea (seriously) that 12 teams is the devil and would create a championship game in which hurts their national championship game chances, yet they have a 9 game conference schedule which I think has shown hurts teams chances for bowls and what not.

There's a reason the smartest conference nationally (Big 1G) went to 12 teams and now has a championship game... Big 12 are idiots..

9 team conference round-robin schedule is worse than a championship game in every way possible. That's a big reason why the Big 10 and PAC 10 expanded.

On Wednesday, Big 12 spokesman Bob Burda released a statement saying the Mountaineers' membership "is not contingent upon (them) joining the Conference for the 2012-13 season." He did not elaborate.

why is that good news? Wouldnt you want that to be tied to being able to get there for the 2012 season? That way byu would be the only possibility.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but it seems like it could be good for BYU if the WV thing was to get pushed out a year or two, and if they needed someone right away, they'd move us in to fill the gap. No?

Ostensibly, this entire WVU lawsuit is the result of the B12 needing someone next year. That is my guess.

I just had a meet n' greet with a West Virginia firm who is doing some marketing of their Energy practice. They mentioned that Morgantown, WV has placed a complete ban on all fracking operations within their city limits. I asked them "Does the Big-12 Expansion Committee know about this?" Lightened up a pretty boring meeting, but seriously, someone needs to let the B12 folks know that Morgantown is hostile to oil and gas industry.

Unless Missouri plays in the SEC next year, the Big 12 will have 10 teams. Given that they are still in the Big 12 makes it less likely that they will leave before the 2012 season. They will likely announce and play one lame duck year and join the SEC in 2013(if they still move as expected).

Speaking of which, wasn't Mizzu supposed to be having some big meeting Monday? Has any news come out of that front recently?
