I'll give you a few benefits of having a 12 games PAC-16 Conference schedule:

- you'd squeeze more money out of the networks, since you have more conference content.

- a 12 game conference schedule would give you a "truer" East or West Champion than a 9 game schedule would.

- you'd eliminate games such as SJSU @ Stanford, or MSU @ Utah, or Northern Arizona @ UA.

I don't like it either. I think most of us who remember a 16 team WAC have a better concept of how much that sucks that most of the other folks who are talking about it. For me 12 is the max.

if I simply look at Utah's OOC Schedule this year. Which is Montana St, BYU and Pitt vs. what it could be if there were three more conference games in a PAC-16, it's a no-brainer. 90% of Utah fans would choose the latter.

Would USC rather play Minnesota or a conference game at Oklahoma St? Would UCLA rather play at Houston, or have a conference game against Texas Tech?

If 12 conference games is too out of the box, then maybe you play 11 with one OOC game???

But if the Big 12 comes apart, another way for Texas to hold onto LHN may be joining the Atlantic Coast Conference, two sources close to the situation said Monday. ESPN holds the TV rights in the ACC and also owns and operates LHN.

But the ACC would only come into play if Oklahoma left for the Pac-12 and the Big 12 busted up, sources said.

In my mind, this brings me back to the question I've been thinking of all along in the past month.

Originally I wondered... Is having a major home for its minor sports more important to Texas than maintaining the LHN? If the answer is no then they'll inevitably go independent.

But, I should simplify my question - is ANYTHING more important to Texas than maintaining the LHN? Again, if the answer is no then we should fully expect UT to try any and every option to avoid going to the Pac-12 or Big 10 for football. That includes seemingly ridiculous moves to a conference like the ACC.

And, again, I think independence is probably the inevitable end game. It's just a matter of time...

Texas could probably park its other sports in the Big East if it wanted to. I would love seeing it happen since that would maybe mean BYU playing Texas quite a bit more. To be perfectly honest and people will think I'm nuts, but I wouldn't mind a continual home-away-"neutral" series with Texas. I know their fans will outnumber our fans 4-1 at Jerry's World, but if a routine is established, I could see that ratio going down. I think having that series with Texas over the long haul would establish some recruiting lines in Texas.

I'm not a huge fan of a pure 2-1 with Notre Dame.

BYU is going to be able to have a decent schedule the first 5-6 weeks of the season. The problem is the last half as many have noted. I hope BYU can establish some relationships with schools like Boise State and the service academies in the future. The series with Boise State looks like it is going to be played in September although not all the games have been scheduled yet. It appears as if the games with Notre Dame are happening in October and November. The Georgia Tech games are in October.

I'm in disagreement with others regarding schools like Houston and UCF. These are decent teams we can schedule around October. I think 1-1s with them are perfectly fine and much preferable to scheduling 1-1s with Wyoming, Colorado State, UNLV and New Mexico every year.

At the moment he puts it out, it very well might be true. Trouble is, within 30 minutes it might not be. We should be accustomed to such fluidity in all of this. And at the same time, Chip's excessive usage of "unnamed sources" should be taken with a grain of salt.
