would crack me up if the Big 12 decided to try and poach the pac
This is what I've been saying! The B12 is by far the stronger conference. Why not just go swipe SC and UCLA? This has totally been an exercise in mismanagement by the Big 12.
This is now bordering on the absurd but that's apples and oranges.
Apples to apples (excluding metro), SLC is a tiny 182k vs fort worth at 720k (I saw higher numbers for FW and lower for Lubbock, but whatever).
Of course the more relevant stat is the Metro pop, which is 1mm for SLC metro and several million in fort worth, even if you only include Arlington and the other mid cities.
It's not even close.
Yes, I understand that Metro is more important. I was just correcting your obviously false statement that Ft. Worth itself is bigger than SLC metro, which is obviously not true. I know you pride yourself on being very smart, so I just wanted to help you out.

Hard to know what that really means. Those planes are leased flight-by-flight, so there's no telling who actually was on the plane.

That is now a done deal. So, Utah gets an invite to the Pac10 next week. BYU and TCU the week following. Big 12 needs 12.
Out of TCU and BYU, which one gets to be Baylor? Or Kansas, football-wise?

That's easy. BYU in the B12 North is nothing like Utah in a PAC 18 east. As for basketball, your Dayton, OH aptly pointed out the equivalency of the Utah and BYU basketball traditions, really just a tier below Kansas.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I don't even know what to pull for any more. BYU and Utah in different conferences is lame. I like the prospect of a MWC with BSU and an autobid, and if TCU and BSU both make runs this year (not mutually exclusive or farfetched at all), I think they'll get one, especially if this PAC 16 doesn't pan out. BYU going to B12 would be cool, although the Sunday play issue seems to make that prospect a little dicey (could BYU just agree to forfeit any championship games on Sunday? Or just not field teams in any of the events with Sunday championships? It'd be worth it.)
So I guess my preference:
1) BYU and Utah to B12
2) BYU and TCU to B12 with Utah being left in MWC, and Utah begging to play BYU, with us only granting games on a 2-for-1 home-away agreement (and Utah being happy to get them). Yeah, I'll own my schadenfreude.
3) BYU and TCU to B12 and Utah to PAC 12.
4) Leave everything alone.
