That was always total drivel from dumb sportswriters like Frank Deford, RIP.

    • So now I'm confused, is the argument that Utah should ditch football or that Utah is prestigious enough for the B1G?

Yes. They should ditch football and join the B1G.

        • The PAC 12 should stick together and add Kansas and Rice.

I like it, but instead of Rice they should snag Texas Tech just to steal one of the top Big XII travel destinations.

            • Today's weather report suggests that the PAC10 might survive. If I were in the Larry Scott Position of Great Genius, I would (A) stand pat at 10 and play a full round robin 9-game schedule AND (B) have the champs of the Pac-12 and the ACC play in a Snoop-Biggie/West Coast, East Coast prize fight.

Odds are you are only getting one team into the playoffs from the two conferences anyway, so why not make it official! Plus, the SHOWDOWN could be a real money maker in its own right. The only real downside is if the ACC and PAC10 have two legit playoff contenders (say, Clemson and Utah) and then one loses the SHOWDOWN (say, Clemson). But I doubt the ACC and the PAC have 2 of the best 4 teams in the country any time soon.

BYU and the BIG XII might not like it, but there doesn't seem to be much consideration of others going into these decisions.

I was going to say Rice and Stony Brook.

Nope. We're only adding AAU schools. Maybe everyone pitches in to help Cal Tech start football and basketball (and women's per Title IX)? A loaner. Cal Tech has more money than God but not for football. That would recover the So Cal market.

Stony Brook is in the BIG XII now? Crazy times...

I didn't know of that rule (and I doubt OSU, ASU, or Wazzu know of it either).

But we should probably secure the California market and lock down the UCs: Davis, Irvine, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz.

That's why I was suggesting Stony Brook. I think they hit the AAU qualifier.

Of course, I think some of the UC's do too - so gobble them up to secure the SoCal TV market quick!

They need to grab the Banana Slugs and the Anteaters. Maybe even the Gauchos.

                                UCSB is a great idea.
