Sounds like Jimmer better up that wedding date or else gold digger might start jocking Matt Carlino.

One of the Kings blogs the other day had an article about Jimmer. Basically said he needs to quit being so nice and asking for the ball. He needs to demand the ball and take over like he did in college. That's what made him special and his "trying to fit in and find his place" isn't going to cut it, especially on this team. I tend to agree.

The problem is the way he played in college isn't going to cut it as a pro. He's not good enough to do that at this level. He was always going to need to adapt, and hopefully he does.

I agree with this also. He can't have the kind of usage rate he did at BYU, but he can at times, he just needs to pick his spots. He needs to demand the ball from his teammates more. That they nonchalantly look him off even when inbounding the ball is bullshit. And that's the bigger issue. He does need to adapt his game, but there is no adapting it to whatever it is the Kings do.

He can play more aggressive and I don't mean just taking shots. Jimmer can still attack and right now he is in passive no-mans-land taking shots he feels he has to take instead of getting shots he wants to take.

                  I disagree.

I have watched every minute that Jimmer has played this season. A few thoughts:

                  1. He is actually an adequate defender. Yes like everyone he gets beat at times but for the most part he stays in front of his man and contests shots.

                  2. He has shown the ability to create his own shot. 80% of his shots are coming off the dribble. He has shown an ability to get in to the late create his own shot as well as get to the rim.

                  3. His passing has been fantastic. He would average about 4 or 5 assists a game if his teammates had any skill. This is what has impressed me most.

                  Now the bad.

                  1. He is just not making shots. Last night he took 4 shots in just 6 minutes all 4 of them he created wide open looks for himself. 3 of the 4 did rim out so he is close. But he also airballed a wide open 10 footer.

                  2. He has turned it over a few to many times. The majority of his turnovers have come when he leaves his feet to pass. This is a terrible habit he has and I know it is something Smart is trying to fix.

                  3. His shot has completely changed. He does not elevate like he did in college nor is he as aggressive. I am not sure if he thought his shot was too slow or what. But it is completely over hauled and I think that is going to take some time for him to get used too.

With no summer league, training camp, and playing on a bad team. He deserves a pass this season. We are still only 15 games in and he is playing alongside two of the biggest black holes in the game (Evans nad Thornton). Nobody on that Kings team shoots the ball well they never run set plays, and everything is pure isolation. I can count two makes for Jimmer all year that were easy shots or layups in transition. Every shot is tough for this team since none of them move without the ball or help each other. They are a total cluster.

You forgot another bad to add to that list. If he is getting to the rim and not hitting shots, you have to be very concerned about his inability to draw fouls. He is not getting to the line.

I still think that Fredette will be a solid NBA player, but right now he just isn't good and benching him is appropriate. Whatever the reason he isn't hitting shots, he is a shooter that cannot shoot so he should be on the bench.

True he is not getting to the foul line another good point. Isaiah Thomas is much more productive than Jimmer drawing fouls. He shot 8 free throws last night.

The only reason you don't bench Jimmer is this team is terrible and they are not going anywhere. Give your young guys hte experience.

You nailed my biggest worry. I think Jimmer's been to the line maybe 3 times total. I was chalking it up to refs not giving rookies many calls until Thomas' minutes started increasing and I watched him get a call every time he takes it to the hoop.

Jimmer is 12 of 13 from the line and is averaging just barely more than 1 FTA per 10 FGA. He averaged 1 FTA per 3 FGA his senior year at BYU.

While Burks isn't a fair comparison because the guy's greatest ability is to get to the line, he has shot more than double the FTs of Fredette in half the minutes. It isn't about him not getting calls because he is a rookie, it is about him not drawing fouls.

If I was a Kings or Jimmer fan, the inability to get to the line would concern me more than his shooting. His shooting will likely come in time. It appears he is adjusting his shot to accommodate the faster pace of the NBA and over time he should start hitting. However, he should be getting to the line now especially if he is able to get past his defender.

Fair enough. But I still don't see where Jimmer can play the style in the pros that he did in college, and everyone was aware of that coming out. He was always going to have to evolve his game.

                              1. When I've seen him he has looked better in some stretches, and awful in some stretches. It's to be expected, but his effort has definitely improved.

                              2. This is part of what I was saying. It's great that you can "create a shot," but that doesn't mean much if you're not creating makeable shots. When you watched Jimmer last year, when he got all the way to the rim, he didn't get good separation from the floor and barely got much clearance for his release. There was a lot of talk from scouts that he wasn't a good finisher, and people on CB shit their pants because they have no idea what that means. But with the length and size of the NBA, that has only become a compounded problem for him. When I've watched him get to the hoop, he is completely smothered and while he has "created a shot," he has no prayer at making it. This is part of where there needs to be a change. Those shots have to become pull-ups or floaters before the rotation -- he can't get all the way under there and think he's going to get a decent look off in the NBA.

                              3. It has looked different to me too, and I'm not sure why. His release was plenty quick enough in college, so I'm not sure why the change.

But the biggest thing I'm talking about is he doesn't have the ability level to play to the type of volume or usage that he did in college, and that was a big part of what he did, and part of what ironed out those small spurts of poor efficiency play. His evolution was going to have to come by way of becoming less of a volume shooter, more of a passer, and a guy who could be efficient with a limited number of shots attempts. He has to find that place where he can be a 47% FG/40% from 3 guy without needing 20 shots to do it. I've seen him miss plenty of shots that he would otherwise make, but as a shooter it's just a different place to come from when you're only getting 5-7 shots a game instead of 20. It's a hard adjustment, but the template for this college-to-pro adaptation is Mark Price. I think he's got the talent to make the change, but his game undoubtedly has to evolve from his approach in college.

With no summer league, training camp, and playing on a bad team. He deserves a pass this season. You'll get no qualms from me there. I'm always preaching patience with rookies to everyone else. There are just too many directions a player can go over the course of a career to get too wrapped up in 12 games, or half a season, or the first full season, or whatever.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

good thoughts from Mark Grace and Cougjunkie.

One reason Jimmer isn't going to the line is he pulls up for a ten foot fade away instead of going to the rim. This will probably be a great way for him to get points once he has mastered it, but foul shots come from driving hard to the basket.
