Not thrilled. You understand that Sloan's time was going to come sooner or later (and in all likelihood, probably had already passed) but you don't like to see it go down like this. Pitting a player versus a coach and letting the player win is never a good precedence to set. From Deron's side, you get his frustration as the guy wants to win, but he has gone about it the wrong way this year.

What has Darren done to earn so much goodwill within the fanbase?
I think HFN has it dead on. The target is now on DWill's back. He wanted Sloan gone, now he's going to have to step up and be the guy he thinks he is. I will say this, if DWill now turns his back on Utah like Lebron did in Cleveland, the welcome Fisher/Boozer got by Jazz fans will seem like one Jimmer gets in Provo. It'll be ugly, and it'll be deserved IMO.

No remember we were undefeated in the pre-season?

Going forward, yes. They've already had a streak of 7 games earlier this season!

You would think this would cement his stay here, now. Jazz can pay him more and he basically gets to hand-pick his new coach.

Who was his college coach? Any chance he makes that request?

Larry Brown wants to coach, but that guy always seems to fight with players.

Silly Rabbit. They already won 7 in a row this year (all thanks to Sloan, of course).

Already completely disregarding the preseason trophy.

I wonder if an NBA coach has ever not finished the season out after such a dominating preseason performance. I doubt it.

                I forgot about that.

Sloan is walking away from a gold mine.

So I misspoke in saying it was a win-win. It's actually a win-win-win.
The biggest issue IMO is the thought that a player is now being given more power than the coach who has been the institution.

I don't necessarily think that Deron is wrong with some of his criticisms, and I don't know that this isn't the best thing for the Jazz long term. But it has the feel of a nasty situation and has left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth.

His gold mine, no less. He dug the sumbitch!

                      • I think what went down in the locker room was KOC reminded Sloan that the point guard he keeps fighting with was only in Utah because it was what Jerry wanted.

KOC: "I wanted to draft Paul. You and that previous lap dog owner of yours were the ones who wanted Deron."

                        Sloan: "I'm done."

                        • It was probably over at halftime but do you think Jerry was happy that after a loss for which he was primarily responsible Deron spent 10 min chumming it up with Jazz East instead of in the locker room with teammates?

I was at Franck's Restaurant two nights ago when Deron and the gang (Millsap, CJ, and the Bulls) were in yucking it up all night. Nothing at all wrong with that but I think it has to piss off old school guys like Jerry that the new NBA is run by these players that don't seem to "hate" their opponents. (Hate is probably the wrong word).

Bruce Weber was his college coach at Illinois. But I think pandering to any player is an absolutely horrible idea with the selection of the coach.

I think the Jazz stay in-house. Corbin or Hornacek IMO are the most likely candidates. But I didn't think that Sloan would leave mid-season, so you never know.

                              • I wonder if Sloan moves or has to stick around. Since he remarried, he has a step daughter that I believe is in HS here.

I think I will walk over to the Delta Center and see if there are hoards of media trucks converging to cover the story.
