Why does the fact that he played at Duke bother me so much? I don't hate the school but there's no denying the stigma that's attached to former Duke players in the NBA."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

Because they all suck in the NBA. Pray that his one year at Mississippi state breaks the curse.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostWhy does the fact that he played at Duke bother me so much? Chances are, Hood will never reach Redd as a scorer. Redd had 6-8 seasons where he averaged 20+ ppg and reached 27 ppg in one season. As a shooter, he could get there. Redd was always right about 45% overall FGs and 38-40% 3pt FGs.Originally posted by wapiti View PostRedd was a shot maker. Hood can make shots. But there is obviously a lot of upside from here.I'm like LeBron James.

I don't get it unless they think this is just a value signing. An asset to be used later. After last year's experience and seeing Williams and Jefferson sign elsewhere (I'm not disappointed) it makes me think we wasted a lot of time with nothing to show. We were a horrible team who spend a lot of time working through players who were never going to be on the team. Maybe there is an argument that you need a little talent on the team so that the young guys can progress faster, but that didn't happen either. Booker brings absolutely nothing to this team. He makes sense for a team trying to compete for something, and in a backup role, but his contract is for only 2 years, so he's gone just when the Jazz might want or need someone like him.Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View Post2 yrs, $10 M for Trevor Booker? WTH? Undersized 4 that can't shoot. The team already had Gobert, Favors, Kanter, Novak, and Evans for the 4 and 5 spots, and Evans a heck of a lot cheaper than $5 M per.
But as an asset, it might makes sense.
Its like the I. Thomas signing in PHX. Makes no sense if they bring back Bledsoe with Dragic. At least not for this season. But they got decent value for him. So he's an asset and protection against Dragic opting out.

I don't really get it. Locke of course is saying Booker will be great in the locker room because he went to college for 4 years and is 26 years old. Because we all know just being older means you are great in the locker room (Mark Jackson and Brandon Rush being great examples). I had to laugh at Tony Jones calling Trevor Booker a stretch 4. Nice try, self-professed basketball expert. $5 M per is too much for a team's fifth PF/C, especially when that guy hasn't really ever done anything but play hard. You should be able to get those kind of players for $2.5 M. Over-paying your best players isn't anywhere the near the concern that over-paying your bench guys is.Originally posted by Jacob View PostI don't get it unless they think this is just a value signing. Is Booker really any better than Jeremy Evans? And Evans is already under contract for a lot less. I'd rather roll with Jeremy, and save that cap space for possible asset acquisition during the season.

He's not a stretch 4, but also not a PF/C - he's a PF/SF. I think I'd rather have Marvin - he is a legit stretch 4.Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View PostI don't really get it. He will be able to go by the nickname "booger". Around here that has to be worth something.

You clearly don't value the fact that Booker has a fiance. Gail is happy that he will be having sex a lot with one woman in particular, if not one woman exclusively.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostHe's not a stretch 4, but also not a PF/C - he's a PF/SF. Booker shouldn't get any minutes ahead of Favors or Kanter or Gobert. Or Novak. Or Hood. But he just got paid $5 M for next year. He didn't get the vet's minimum. So the Jazz are definitely thinking he's going to be in the rotation in some way.

It's like signing Dick Jefferson all over again.Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View PostYou clearly don't value the fact that Booker has a fiance. Gail is happy that he will be having sex a lot with one woman in particular, if not one woman exclusively.

How else are they going to get to the minimum?
