  • Gobert has gone from not being able to complete pre-draft drills because of how uncoordinated he was to what we're seeing on the court right now. In spite of all of the "Whoa, careful on the Gobert hype, he's not going to be able to do this against Dwight Howard" nonsense I read on Twitter last night (no kidding, idiots), I'm feeling pretty hopeful about his future. That is a huge improvement in a very short time span. He plays harder than a lot of guys his size normally do, he's shown he can improve a lot, he's added some weight, he can actually get off the floor, and he really competes. He isn't BJ Mullens or Hasheem Thabeet or Saer Sene.

Rim protector + elite wing defender = very good NBA defense. Can Gobert/Favors and Exum get there?

I'd take him as a backup, but I think he ends up being a starter level player and I could see him as the type that would have serious attitude as a backup. At least I know his mom would.

Kanter is interesting. I actually think he has talent but the Jazz will let him walk and he will end up as a decent role player somewhere, similar to Koufos.
I like Kanter a lot. Offensively I've always thought he has more natural feel and ability than Favors, but he doesn't have Favors two-way upside because of his lack of athleticism. Gobert gives you great 4/5 size when you push Favors to the 4, and obviously some great defensive potential. But I think in that pairing you need to work in a true stretch 4 guy to make it work and I don't think Kanter can be that. Something like the Steve Novak of a few years ago would be the ideal.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

      • 2 yrs, $10 M for Trevor Booker? WTH? Undersized 4 that can't shoot. The team already had Gobert, Favors, Kanter, Novak, and Evans for the 4 and 5 spots, and Evans a heck of a lot cheaper than $5 M per.

If Exum's long-term future is as a point and Gobert looks like true defensive presence at the 5 with the ability to catch and dunk, it will be interesting to see what happens to Kanter and Burke.
I'd make it a trio with Kanter. I still think Kanter can be a big time scoring option for his size, especially in a scheme that will reportedly give him a lot of pick and pop options. If his jumpshot can be reliable, and can even stretch to the 3 (which practice reports most of last year says can definitely happen), then he could turn into a real match-up issue for teams. Because if they try to stick a stretch 4 guy on him to stay with him on his jumpers, he can abuse those players on the block. But if a team puts their big on him, he drags them away. I'm very intrigued to see what becomes of Kanter under Snyder, with a system in place that moves the ball a lot and isn't going to expect him to only score with his back to the hoop.

I think Burke will have the career arc of Jamaal Tinsley or Jarrett Jack. Long NBA career with a few opportunities to see if he's a starter. Several teams will use him to plug a hole but ultimately be left unsatisfied.

Yeah that's about right. I was thinking of Earl Watson earlier.

He reminds me a bit of Michael Redd and Tayshaun Prince. Easy lefty comparisons.

                      • If you mean Trevor Booker he played his college ball at Clemson. Was the 23rd pick in the 2010 NBA draft and the first senior selected. Drafter by Washington and has been with them since 2010. FG percentage is not bad.

I like the Michael Redd comparison.

He's not as bulky as Marvin, is a better athlete and just moves better in general. More of a true wing than Marvin who is a 3/4 tweener.
                            I'm like LeBron James.

Redd is a better shooter. Hood is bigger and more athletic. I bet Hood has 3-4 inches on Redd.

I'm still in shock that this is BYU71 posting here. Seriously, who hacked his account? This is the most cognizant think he's posted in a very, very long time.
