I think my theory is the only one that possibly makes any sense. There were plenty of Euro candidates to draft and stash. And I know if a guy says he wants to come to the NBA then his NBA team doesn't really have the option of forcing him to play overseas, but lots of the guys drafted (at least per Ford and Woj) are going to stay in Europe for a few years. And with the 44th pick being sold for $1 M, if the Jazz wanted to get rid of it, why not sell it for $1 M, knowing you can put that in your "buy a future 2nd round pick piggybank"?

So the good news is with the draft of Exum the Jazz should be in the running for the top pick next year.

I think Utah will definitely have a good pick next year, but I think we're going to see just how bad Corbin was as a coach when the team takes a big step forward this season. Corbin was so, so bad. He was DL's best tank chip.

And yet, the talent rose up to foil the best laid plans. I'm really hoping that Exum is special because I have little doubt that both Wiggins and Parker will be.

That said, we drew talent above our draft numbers last night (at least according to experts).

I am pleased with the picks. Sure- I would have rather had Gordon than Exum, probably, but he was the best available by all accounts. That Hood pick was a stroke of good luck, too. Not sure how I feel about Jabari going to the damn Bucks. It would have been at least fun to see him in a 76ers jersey mixing it up with his new home teaching companion. It's not fun to watch anybody in a Bucks jersey.

Little doubt? I have plenty of doubt, and so should you. I'd say there is less than a 50% chance chance both Parker and Wiggnins are "special." Especially Wiggins. Maybe I'd have drafted them both above Exum, but we didn't have those picks. We got the only guy outside 1 or two that does have that chance.

Make no mistake. Exum won't be very good this year, especially on defense. We won't know this year who will have a great career.

Let's talk about smr for a second. Bagging on Hayward? Maybe he could just call up LA or Boston, cause I bet you either one would trade Randle or Smart for Hayward. Might not be a terrible plan if Hayward gets over $10m per year. But then you really have too many pg or pf players.

I liked Exum's comment that part of being unknown because he hasn't been playing is that teams don't know how much he's improved.

I also liked how he said him and Burke can play together because the Aussie team has Patty Mills and Dellavedova playing together. Yeah, that is what Utah was shooting for with two lottery picks, Mills and Mouthguard.

I just watched some Dante Exum tape vs. team USA at some FIBA tourney. He looks great in transition and has a very quick first step and really long arms. He has a problem creating space off the dribble and got locked down by Marcus Smart. His perimeter D is suspect but is good off the glass. His perimeter shot is solid.

Cap'n at duke averaging 16 a game.. maybe not the "upside" of Jabari- but we sure got a good one!

I've seen that video and yes he was Marcus Smart's bitch in that game. But the much touted first step does indeed look to be legit as he blew by everybody not named Marcus Smart with relative ease. And in fairness to Exum, that may have been his worst game of the tournament.

I'm pretty sure coach K said Hood was the team's MVP. I watched Duke a lot last year and while there were times Parker got pulled to due his poor play on both on offense and defense, it rarely if ever happened to Hood. Parker was more dynamic, but Hood was a much more consistent shooter, took better care of the ball and defended better. I'm not saying Hood is better or even as good, but the gap is small between the two.

Is there a comp out there for a tall, ultra-quick point guard who doesn't really play above the rim? Watching him drive and you can think of Westbrook or Rose and how they get to the rim, but he's not near their level in explosiveness getting off the floor. He reminds me of Ty Lawson, but 6" taller.
