Exum really does look like he's got awesome speed and quickness -- people can't stay in front of him defensively and then you combine that with the really long arms and passing ability and I think he will be very good, maybe even Tony Parker good as far as his ability to get into the lane and make things happen on offense.

Gennessy reporting that Utah plans to match on Hayward (shocker) and try to retain Marvin, but otherwise will not be very active in free agency. Phoenix, Boston, and Charlotte the teams rumored to be most interested in Hayward.

I wonder if Lindsey hopes to be a facilitator in a 3 team trade when some star (Love, Carmelo, the Miami 3, or even Bledsoe or Monroe) is on the move in a sign-and-trade. Match on Hayward, bring Marvin back at a decent rate, still have plenty of room to take back salaries to get picks or a young player.

I want to think no team would ever offer Hayward the max. Then I remember that Gordon got that deal after a season where he played only 9 games. But I still think there is no way Hayward gets that kind of money thrown at him. I don't know if it works in favor of the Jazz that there are major free agents available right now, or if it means when the dust settles on the Miami three, Carmelo, and Love's likely deal there will be multiple teams with a lot of space that want to spend it and throw it at Gordon. Jazz can give him an extra year still, right? Would love to see them use that extra year to hopefully save a million or two each year.

If a team is willing to pay him the max,they would seem crazy. But Jazz may match anyway. I don't know. A better way to say that might be that Jazz will match any offer, because nobody will offer the max, we think. But this is a league that may have a team giving draft picks to bring Jason Kidd over as coack. This is a league where there there are no high quality wings available as FA after Carmelo, assuming Heat stay together.

Now that Gordon is a restricted free agent the Jazz lost the extra year leverage. Once Gordon signs with another team the Jazz have a take-it-or-leave-it contract decision. I suppose the Jazz could negotiate a new contract directly where they could offer the extra year, but I haven't seen precedent for that and it defeats the purpose of letting this get to restricted free agency.

Reports are saying the Suns want Gordon for a max k, citing the close relationship between he and Jeff Hornacek. Other reports are that the Suns are pursuing lebron and carmello. I'm calling B.S. on the Gordon-gets-a-max-deal-in-Phoenix reports.

I don't see how it defeats the purpose. Jazz still have the advantage and can offer more $ and more years. Happens every single year and drives many sign and trades.

Unrelatedly, the market for Deng is allegedly 10-12 million. Hayward is worth more than than Deng.

Phoenix has only $35MM in committed salary this year and virtually nothing committed beyond next year. They have to deal with Eric Bledsoe as a restricted free agent and decide whether to extend the Morris twins or let them be RFA's next summer. They certainly have the space to add Gordon but I wouldn't be thrilled with it if I were a Suns fan.

Giving Gordon max $ is like giving Kirelinko (sp) max $. He is way too inconsistent to give max $ to.
