I went to the Jazz game last night with my brother. He's a big Jazz fan and we tend to agree on most things Jazz. Having said that, it was interesting to sit with a guy who, despite being a huge fan, sincerely wanted the Jazz to lose. I know there are a few on this site who claim to feel that way, but I don't know that I ever really believed people could sincerely want them to lose games. I don't mind if they lose, but ultimately - especially with Burks, Burke, Hayward and Favors or Kanter playing down the stretch - deep down I want them to win.
I'm not sure where the disconnect is in this regard, between two people who generally agree on all things Jazz.
Perhaps I'm just not convinced Wiggins, Parker, Randle and Exum are really all that good. Maybe I have too much faith in the lottery process, that even if the Jazz come in with the 6th or 7th worst record, they'll get into the top three. Or maybe I have too little faith in the lottery process, that even if they come in with the 1st thru 3rd worst record, they'll be outside the top three.
Just weird. He really wanted them to lose, even on a night when out of respect for his TBM brother, he avoided the booze for 2.5 hours.I'm like LeBron James.

I like your brother. I was not disappointed at the loss to the Bucks. I'll even be rooting for the next loss to the Lakers. The most disappointing part of the game I attended against the Kings was that the Jazz won. This is so even considering that it was the most boring basketball game of all time.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostI went to the Jazz game last night with my brother. This season, I want the Jazz to lose to get a better pick. That said, if I am at the game, I cheer for the Jazz to win like I always do. Can't not.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostI went to the Jazz game last night with my brother. He's a big Jazz fan and we tend to agree on most things Jazz. I'm with you. I want the Jazz to play well and lose by 2. The Utes on the road this year are a good model for that.Originally posted by Jacob View PostI like your brother. That's my brother. Last night's game was perfect for him. Close until the end and ultimately a loss. It's still pretty bizarre to me that people really think that way, but I guess I understand it.Originally posted by wapiti View PostI'm with you. I want the Jazz to play well and lose by 2. Same. I'm fine with them losing, and it might even be the preferred outcome, but when it comes right down to it, in the middle of a game, I always want them to win. I'm too competitive to not want to win when the game is actually happening.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostI went to the Jazz game last night with my brother. That roadtrip was worse than losing though. It was sickening."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

It was beautiful except for Favors looking like absolute crap. That's a big worry. We need the young guys to look good but have RJ and Marv bring us down.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostThat roadtrip was worse than losing though. It was sickening.
The tough one is Gordon Hayward. The worse he plays the more likely it is that he will be in a Jazz uniform next year. But do we really want him if he never develops his shot?

That's what I mean by sickening though. Favors is my favorite Jazz player and he just looks defeated and unengaged. Kanter too. Gordon can go jump in a lake for all I care but it's miserable watching possibly the least confident NBA player muddle through 35 min of bad basketball for your favorite team. And Burke was supposed to be an answer and so far looks like little more than a reserve.Originally posted by wapiti View PostIt was beautiful except for Favors looking like absolute crap. The only positive I see for the future is in Burks. His confidence and athleticism has taken center stage for a bad team even though his and every other Jazz player's defense is awful.
IMO the Jazz will not resign Gordon, btw."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

He was a 40% 3pt shooter over 3 seasons coming into this year. His shot has left him, no doubt, but I don't think it's fair to say he's never developed a shot. The other thing is if you look at the correlation between his usage and shooting efficiency, there's basically an inverse relationship (which is not uncommon outside of total star players). I'd link the numbers but can't get to sports sites at work these days. At any rate, if you plug him back in secondary/tertiary scoring roles I'm positive his %'s will tick back up.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

They'll try and some other team will max him and the Jazz won't match. That may be the gin talking.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostI'd be shocked if they didn't."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

Definitely the gin talking. You can't replace talent, so you overpay in the NBA. Almost always happens with guys at the end of their rookie deal. Unless you are the Kings and someone offers Tyreke Evans 44 million. Then you let him walk.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostThey'll try and some other team will max him and the Jazz won't match. That may be the gin talking.

You must have put down a whole bottle. Nobody is offering G-Time the max.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostThey'll try and some other team will max him and the Jazz won't match. That may be the gin talking. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.
