  • Looking at our schedule overall, it's a pretty nice mix for us, only one B2B2B game.

Disappointed that we couldn't open up the season on the 26th of December last most of the league is. We might be one of the only teams not to play on the 25th or 26th.

    • Jazz also don't have to play at Miami, Atlanta, or Orlando, and their only H/H with Eastern teams are with Philly, Cleveland, & I believe NJ. Also, 14 of their first 20 are at home and their final two games are at home (if they are somehow fighting for a playoff spot). A very favorable schedule.

Oh and despite their first game being on the road against The Lakers, unbelievably this will be in the third night of a B2B2B for the Lakers.

      I can't wait.

I heard an old-timer on LV radio talking about b2b2b games. Apparently before charter flights, etc. NBA teams used to play 3-game series all the time, 3 games in three days type thing. He claims that when a much better team played against an inferior opponent, it was usually the middle game that the team stole. The dynamic is largely different here, because it's three different teams in three nights, but I don't expect fatigue to be much of a factor in the first week of the season. I'm still penciling that in as a loss for the Jazz.

        • Corbin said today that Favors "could" start.

Can't wait to see Corbin trot out Harris/Bell/Miles/Millsap/Jefferson as the starting give.

He also said the Jazz won't make many changes offensively, but will try to simplify defensively in terms of having a set system that they employ night to night, without as many adjustments based on the opponent. His hope is that it will allow all five players to be on the same page more frequently, instead of having 1-2 guys on the court getting mixed up because they're playing the defensive patterns designed for the previous night's game.

Edit: @tribjazz added that KOC said the Jazz may be hiring a big man coach soon.

If Corbin rolls out that group I will not be pleased. Even with only 10 players currently under contract that group is laughable. I'm not ready to annoint Burks yet but he or any SG they sign right now should start over Bell and at the very least Hayward and Favors should be starting. I think a starting line up of Harris/Burks or FA/Hayward/Favors/Jefferson is a pretty decent line up.

Also, I sure hope that I'm not interpreting his new defensive philosophy as playing the same way regardless of opponent!? Too much change is tough for young players but this team needs toughness not simplicity.

Just small summaries were given about the interview, but that is how Corbin apparently explained it. I'm sure there will be tweaks from night to night, but he said he wanted there to be far less thinking on defense to help eliminate mistakes in the team scheme.

To me, the solution should be to get someone on the staff that can actually coach defense, instead of this apparent decision to just dumb everything down since the current staff can't coach the players up well enough on that end of the court. I like that they're adding a big man coach. But that means you can't have both Hornacek and Layden on the staff with Corbin being the head guy. Both Layden and Hornacek strike me as a 3rd asst or specialty guy on the staff, like Chiesa, rather than having someone like Thibodeau or Winter or Buldenhozer.

Good hell. The only excuse for not starting Favors is if he is injured. I know it is just rumor, but KOC needs to do what it is Sam Presti rumored that he did. Tell Corbin that he wants him to try to win every game, but that he needs to try to win every game while playing Favors and Hayward 30+ minutes per night. The Jazz also need to give Burks 20 minutes a night. There really isn't any reason, except for injuries, to play Raja Bell.

In an ideal world, the Jazz would realize they are building for the future and go with a lineup of Harris/Burks/Hayward/Favors/Jefferson

I was going to tell funk to keep preaching until the "except for injuries" caveat with Raja. I'd revise that portion.

                      • So have we heard anything about how many players the Jazz plan on keeping under contract? The minimum requirement is still 13, right?

                        • Bad news for the Jazz: Warriors offering Chandler 4 years, 60m. If Chandler signs, Warriors will still be in the lottery, but it won't be a top 10 pick.

Amazing example of going from undervalued to grossly over-valued in a single year.

This all means Biedrins hits the waivers. Once upon a time, the Jazz would have been interested.

I hope the Warriors don't trade Ellis.

Nevermind on Chandler, looks like the Knicks. Which is actually a really good move for them this year.

Landing Chandler could have potentially made it more likely that the Jazz get the pick given the protection. They need some talent to keep them out of the top 7.

                              • Jazz announce the hiring of Mike Sanders as the director of player development. Does that mean he is the big man coach that was to be hired at the end of this week? Or will that be another addition to the coaching staff? The media was digging to see if that was going to be Malone taking the job but KOC and Corbin offered up no comments.
