    My thoughts exactly.

Another way to look at it - the Jazz managed to get a 2nd round pick for a guy who isn't really in their plans for the future and who they may not have been overly interested in signing for themselves this year anyway. Something for nothing is never a bad thing.

If Denver struggles and that turns into an early 2nd round pick, it has a lot of value. You can take a flyer on a 1st rounder that slides, or you can flip the pick for something else. I like the way Lindsey is collecting assets.

There are two things that may prevent this.

1st - while the Jazz have eliminated some players who would contribute to some wins throughout the season, I do believe that they will try to win/be competitive with whatever players they end up with on he roster.

2nd - I am not as certain about other teams. I think there will be some who are more dedicated to losing than the Jazz, and who will have mysterious injuries crop up on players here and there.

Trying and scoring are two different things though. As much as I hated Al's game, when he wasn't in this core would really struggle to score. Perhaps without the crutch they will individually step up but I foresee some 12 pt quarters in the Jazz future. For the record, if they truly think they can get the game-changer in 2014 I'm all for tankapalooza.

I don't think anyone should be worried about Foye being on a division rival. The 2nd round pick has more value to this team than Randy Foye. Also, it isn't like Foye is all that valuable anyway.

If nothing else, this had to be done to save Corbin from Corbin. We can't have players like Foye on the team blocking the chance to see what we have in Alec Burks.

The scoring could be brutal this year. Hayward has to be the go-to guy with scoring this coming year. If he can take charge instead of sitting back like he often did with Jefferson and Milsap in the game, then he could develop into a nice 20ppg scorer. I think Kanter has the ability to be a scorer, though I don't think this will be the year that he breaks out. With that said, there is some real potential there. Burks will most likely never be a terrific shooter, but he can get to the rim to get his points. Favors is still raw but he shows that he does some skill around the hoop.

So breaking it down. Who scores this year? Here is my stab at it:
                Hayward: 18
                Favors: 13
                Kanter: 12
                Burks: 10
                Burke: 10
AND HOLY CRAP, I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE THE OTHER 30 POINTS A GAME WILL BE COMING FROM. And, I am OK with that. If Rush is healthy, he can come in and get 8-10 points. No idea how much Biedrins and Jefferson time these two will get, but put them in for another 10 points total between them. But we are going to have see some dramatic leaps in scoring and in play from the young guys. If Burks can stay under control and attack the rim and Burke and Hayward can get him the ball, I could see him getting 12-14 points per game.

With all that said, none of the players are truly ready to be the MAN simply because they were not pushed much by Corbin as he relied too much on Jefferson or Milsap getting them out of jams. I think the defense has a chance to be solid (better than next year but a lot of that has to do with Jefferson moving on and Favors getting more time). The offense will struggle as will the outside shooting. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Jazz in that 93-95ppg range which would put them in the bottom 5 range among teams. Defense next year will be the key. Good defense can lead to some good and easy baskets for Burks and Burke which would be necessary for this Jazz team.

Division rival? Maybe you missed what's happening here...

                    Like they did with Gobert.

                      • The most troubling aspect of the Foye deal hasn't even been mentioned yet. GSW bench was looking truly awful, and they didn't have a lot to play with in terms of money to round it out. If they signed AI2 outright that put them over the cap, though short of the lux tax, but they couldn't play with that gap between the cap and the lux tax in free agency because the only real flexibility there comes through signing your own players or acquiring rights through S&T deals. So, they were basically left with an exception of about $2.5 to go hunting for free agents to fill out their bench. That wasn't going to yield much at all.

By the Jazz agreeing to this deal, GSW now get AI2 in a S&T, and therefore have the full midlevel to work with in free agency. Obviously that's not a huge deal, but it's enough to add a valuable piece to their bench, where before they likely weren't going to be able to. I said I had no problem with the Jazz helping GSW initially since they're not competing for a spot anyway, but now that the Jazz own their '14 pick they should be doing everything to ensure they suck, and they definitely helped them out here. Was picking up a 2nd rounder worth the help they just gave them? Hard to say.

Not at this point, no. Jazz won't be rivaling them for anything in the division.

How many mpg are you giving Kanter? If Kanter averages only 12 ppg this year I will buy a Kobe jersey.

Great point. I would assume that the thinking here is this: the only reason Denver is willing to do this is so that they get a trade exception (9 million) for losing Iggy. Otherwise, why not just sign Foye outright and give Golden State the finger? In fact, I'll bet that Denver didn't really covet Randy Foye's particular skill set, they just wanted the trade exception. Thus, they were basically saying "Anyone willing to sign one of their decent free agents and ship him to us for peanuts?" If the Jazz said no, a host of other teams with shooting guard free agents would have said yes - a second round pick isn't worth much, but it's better than nothing.

Thus, unlike the Beans/RichJeff/Brush trade, if the Jazz had said "no", there would have been plenty of other teams who said yes.

Uh-oh. This could be an ugly "swish" from Utestar in 10 months.
