I think Rush could be a solid player but giving up a prospect in Murphy for 3 expiring contracts and a late first round pick in 14/17 is a bit of a head scratcher for me.

You helped a team more than you were helped in this deal, IMO.

When you say that the Jazz gave up a prospect in Murphy, it sounds like you are talking about someone who was going to see the court in the next 2-3 years. I don't think the Jazz will lose much sleep giving up their 2nd round pick who can't shoot.

I also find it funny that people are complaining about this trade. For the life of me, I can't figure out what is wrong with it. We got 3 players who the Jazz will pay a bunch of money to this year for a bunch of draft picks. Good for the Jazz. People can say that the Jazz should have asked for me and you know what, they probably did. I guess the Jazz could have said NO and Golden State figures out something else to do. And the Jazz re-sign Milsap and put Murphy on the end of the bench and then go out and sign a couple more $6-7 million veterans to fill out the roster.

This is the worst part of the deal. While I like the move, they really did give GSW a huge assist by doing this trade.

So they finished 6th last year, and who do they leapfrog by adding Iggy? OKC, SA and LAC all stay in front of them, and you can add HOU now too. That puts them 5th at best, and that's before considering DEN and MEM.

And if you're in rebuild mode, what's the problem with helping a team in win now mode? You're not competing with them for seeding so I don't see a ton of harm there.

I don't think any fan is ever satisfied with the value they get out of a deal. It would have been nice to get one of their young prospects, and I'm sure they tried. GSW probably started at protected picks and the Jazz with trying to get Thompson/Barnes, and then it was leveraged down into unprotected picks. Protection probably wasn't a huge deal as the GSW odds of landing in the lottery aren't high, but removing the protection adds some value and you never know what's going to happen to Steph and the other pick is far enough out that their fortunes could change some. But this kind of move for picks is fairly typical -- the last the Jazz pulled a move like this it was a similar deal (Googs for the pick that became Hayward).

In the weird, seller’s market of the 2013 offseason, there are assets to be gained just by hanging around, and watching as other teams scramble to go after their Next Big Move. The Utah Jazz hit one out of the park on Friday, digging in for a “sure, we’ll help you”-move with the Golden State as a way to help the Warriors agree to a deal with free agent Andre Iguodala.

The Jazz will receive Golden State’s 2014 and 2017 first round draft picks, along with Richard Jefferson, Andris Biedrins, and Brandon Rush from the Warriors. Utah just sends back the rights to draft pick Kevin Murphy, while also getting “multiple second round picks,” as reported by Yahoo! Sports Adrian Wojnarowski. This movement allowed the Warriors the cap space to sign Iguodala at four years and $48 million, according to Woj.

Iggy is 29 and can still be an elite defender. He's going to get open looks and lanes to the basket with Klay/Steph, I think he makes them markedly better. GS hit a stride in the playoffs and looked fantastic throughout.

Biedrins/RJ barely cracked the rotation and Rush was hurt. So for essentially scraps and a 20 next year and who the hell knows in '17 the Jazz allow GS to add the premiere wing in this FA class.

One of the young players, Green/Barnes, should have come at a minimum, IMO.

They're definitely better, but again, in the context of the West race, how much? Are they even a HC playoff team? I still think OKC, SA, and LAC are all ahead, and then whichever team Dwight lands on (yes, I know LAL finished 7th last year, but I doubt they'll struggle as much again next year if they get him).

The scraps don't matter. They got two firsts and however many seconds in exchange for cap space they needed to use anyway. I could see the thinking that the longer they waited into the season the more value that space had and perhaps they land more. But they could have also waited and not ended up with any decent deal for that space as well.

Green looked like he was up to about as much as Murphy this year so I'm not that worried about him. Barnes I would have loved to grabbed, but if you were GSW would you have given him up in a package for Iggy? I sure wouldn't. Barnes didn't have an amazing year or anything, but he's got upside and started to show it in the playoffs. Iggy will be 30 in his first year in a W's jersey and is already 4 years removed from his most productive seasons. Personally if I'm the Warriors I kill the deal if it requires a promising prospect.

Yep. If his words haven't been enough, his actions are making it very clear this season is about finding out what they have in Burke, Burks, Hayward, Favors and Kanter. Nobody else matters. If it's clear after this season that one or more of the five (not so much Burke since he's a rook) isn't going to work, they'll make their move next summer.

Just a side note, if nothing else Biedrins should be able to come in and rebound and defend as a third big man. Only 27 and his rebounds per 36 have stayed in the 11 to 13 range throughout his career, even in these past few years when he's been really down.
