Everyone is off the books after the season. The Jazz will get two young players out of it (2 first round picks) and a couple of second round picks and Rush. Rush had a bad knee injury we will see how he bounces back this season. He is a good shooter.

They had to spend the money anyway, right? Why not spend it on expiring deals - hand the keys to the youngsters and see what you have in them - and go into next summer with a ton of cap space and some draft picks in what is, by all accounts, a strong draft? Oh and improve on Foye by adding a bigger shooter who won't be such a liability defensively? Honestly, I'm not seeing the downside.Originally posted by The_Douger View PostThere's no reason to take on all that salary if you don't get a young player out of it. Is Rush any good? When does Biedrins and Jefferson come off the books?I'm like LeBron James.

And unprotected 1st is how Cleveland ended up with Kryie, no? Utah got two unprotected firsts in this trade. I still can't see GS missing the playoffs next year unless Curry goes down for much of the season, and then there'd have to be tremendous luck to move up in the lottery, but having an unprotected pick never hurts. And having one in 2017 can be a solid trade asset in 2014 or 2015.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostThey had to spend the money anyway, right? GS will likely be in the playoffs, but I think the value of the pick is the ability to package it with their own pick and possibly move up just as they did this year to get Burke.Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View PostAnd unprotected 1st is how Cleveland ended up with Kryie, no? I'm on the record with being fine with tanking this year.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostThey had to spend the money anyway, right? That said, if you're going to bail the Warriors out for their previously bad deals, I think you have to get a good, young player back. I don't know a lot about Brandon Rush, but his numbers are underwhelming overall.
I haven't been real high on draft picks for years, unless they're top 5 or so. They just aren't worth that much. Especially ones that will be in the teens or lower.
Overall I'm fine with it. The payment in these types of deals is in the young talent you get back on cheap contracts and we didn't do that. Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

Lindsay has proven he's no idiot. He understands the need to protect Corbin from himself. He can see that Burks and Hayward can be special talents and you don't want to bring a lesser talent such as Barnes to come in and have Corbin give minutes to the wrong guy just as he has the last couple seasons. For all the love Barnes gets on the internets, Burks actually had the superior numbers despite being benched and jerked around all year by a terrible coach, where Barnes was given consistent minutes and a green light by his coach all year long.Originally posted by The_Douger View PostI'm on the record with being fine with tanking this year.

I can agree with that, but I heard on the radio today that they're negotiating with Mo Williams, which would tempt Corbin to play him instead of a younger, less experienced player like the PG we just drafted.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostLindsay has proven he's no idiot. I hope he just fires Corbin at the end of the next year and brings in someone who knows what they're doing. Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

I'm sure they tried for that first, but it was reported last night that GSW wasn't really willing to deal for a player. Who knows how Rush rebounds from the ACL, but the year before he went down he was solid. Like SMR said, a better version of Foye in that he shoots it extremely well from deep but can actually defend the position as well. He's the only one of three I think could actually make a contribution.Originally posted by The_Douger View PostI'm on the record with being fine with tanking this year.

Grabbing two picks puts the Jazz in a better position to make a play for the top 5 next year.I haven't been real high on draft picks for years, unless they're top 5 or so. This is probably about as good as the Jazz could hope for. They wanted to fill their roster while spending the money they have to and have cap space for next year. They also get a couple of picks in the process. This is probably easier than having to negotiate a couple of one year deals with guys who you don't want anyway.
I don't have a problem with it. I don't necessarily view it as "tanking". I think if you ask them they still think they can make the playoffs. I think they believe they can win enough games to keep fans interested (in combination with watching the young players develop) and at the same time position themselves to continue adding pieces to the team in order to make a championship run.

If the draft is as stacked as it appears nobody's getting out of the top 5.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostGrabbing two picks puts the Jazz in a better position to make a play for the top 5 next year.
I think Rush could be a solid player but giving up a prospect in Murphy for 3 expiring contracts and a late first round pick in 14/17 is a bit of a head scratcher for me.
You helped a team more than you were helped in this deal, IMO.

This is a good thing. After the traded deadline he really loafed around the last couple months.Originally posted by MarkGrace View Postbtw, Jazz renounced their Bird rights to Sap in order to make this work. Looks like there's a good chance he gone as well.
He fancies himself a starter and that's just not who he is, so I'm happy to bring in someone like Biedrins who can play both positions and is more likely to understand his role. Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

That's why I think we should have gotten a better player back. We bailed them out of a lot of financial problems and that allowed them to get a pretty nice player in Iggy. Will donate kidney for B12 membership.
