I'm surprised at the sales job the Jazz front office is giving right now. They aren't trying to do anything less than say they did exactly what they wanted last night. That makes me think they very well might've had Gobert high on their board, and are ecstatic that they could get him at 27.

Uh... I kinda like the veteran point options you guys are talking about, but Burke may be ready for 30+ mpg now. A combo guard like Billups would make more sense. Is he still planning on playing? I certainly don't want to see any of last years points back. Burke should probably be the starter. Jack is a backup.

Whether or not he's ready for 30 a night, he should get close to that anyway. Same with Burks, Favors and Kanter.

Mo Williams will re-sign as a free agent with the Utah Jazz only if he remains the starting point guard next season, a source told Yahoo! Sports on Friday.

The demand comes a day after the Jazz traded up in the draft to get University of Michigan star Trey Burke, who was selected ninth on Thursday night.

"He's not going to come back as a backup," the source said of Williams.

As for Burke, he told reporters Thursday, "My goal is to come in and start right away. I look forward to coming in and helping the team win."

Williams, a 10-year NBA veteran, averaged 12.9 points and 6.2 assists during his injury-plagued 2012-13 season in which he played 46 games.

The Jazz were adamant in stating their need for a point guard in this year's draft class. They dealt their two first-round picks (Nos. 14 and 21) to the Minnesota Timberwolves in order to get Burke to Salt Lake City.

Burke averaged 18.6 points and 6.7 rebounds as a sophomore last season while leading Michigan to the NCAA championship game.

It was evident his second stint was not a positive experience for either party. He would be a great bench energy guy but it's too bad he doesn't see that as his role.

By signing Mayo, they would essentially be repeating last year's signing of Marvin, Foye and Mo. How many wins did those players add? He is the same type of player.

I've always thought that guy was overrated. He would be a great rotation player on a good team. You sign guys like him to compliment your other players, not to bring in as a main piece. I think he would cost too much and stunt the growth of guys we have.

Two second round picks and two Euro's who will probably never come over for a guy that was the 5th pick last year. That is crazy.

For me that price would have to be pretty low. He's not a great 3pt shooter, he's not a very good defender, he doesn't get to the line much, he's not big for a SG and doesn't have a long wingspan, and after coming into the league at 21 his best two seasons were actually his first two. Last year he had that great first half, but the 2nd half of the season he was only 41% from the field, 67% from the line, and the few times I saw him play he looked totally disinterested.

ESPN's top 30 FA list had Mayo at #10, gave player comps of DeRozan, Stuckey, and Afflalo. I think those can be pretty solid comps in terms of overall contribution to a team, but DeRozan is younger, improving, and gets to the line really well. He's making about $9.5 M/yr. Afflalo got $7.5 M per. I couldn't see giving Mayo anything over $8 M/yr as being a positive signing. It'd be great if they could get him with the average salary being $8 M or slightly below, with a bunch front loaded the first two years so the cap hit actually ends up being a solid bargain for a player of his ability the last two years of the deal. That ESPN article says 4 yrs, $34 M should be the ceiling for him. I'd be happier to bring him in if he'd shown more of an ability to play PG on a consistent basis. Would Mayo at $8.5 M be a better option than Reddick at $6.5? Or Corey Brewer at $5 M?

If the Jazz add a significant contract that they view as a potential big piece going forward, I do hope they front load the contract and have some flexibility on the back end, maybe with a team option the last year or partially guaranteed years the last two.

Jazz interested in Chris Copeland. With this and the news of their intent to draft Olynyk at 14, it seems they're really interested in adding a stretch four type to the rotation with Enes and Derrick.
