I'd rather pay AK 8m/yr for 2 years. But the Jazz can't sign any free agents now, I suppose.
I guess it would depend on what you define as average. If you go by PER, he would be above average. Also his shooting numbers from last year look pretty good. Good midrange and 3 numbers (though last year was his highest from 3 by far so maybe an anomaly). But I'm not sure what we'd do with another big. Though I also thought of him more as a 4 but apparently he started at the 3.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Career PER of 13.8, peaked at 16.0, was at 15.8 last year. Also had an eFG% of 47% on his jumpers last year, hitting 39% of his 2.6 3ptA/gm. I think he's an above average defender at SF, big enough to guard some smaller PFs, but not quick enough to be much better than he currently is defending the wing. His eFG% on jumpers has gone up each of the last 3 years: 39%, 42%, 47%.

I'd be happy with the trade if Williams didn't have that player option. Because he has it, I can't see Utah making that trade unless it has a small buyout like the contracts of Odom, Korver, etc.

His numbers are suprisingly decent. I guess I say surprisingly because he'll always be a bust for a #2 pick. But without that expectation, he seems fairly competent.

I would be intrigued to see what he would become outside of that iso heavy system in Atlanta that he's always played in. That's his biggest issue is very little ability to create his own shot, whether facing up or with his back to the basket. But IIRC, I've liked him as a solid individual defender. Good size at the 3, would like to see him matched with Gordon at the 2 and Favors up front.

Not a guy I'd want at $8 M for sure, but given the option to pay Devin Harris that much or Marvin Williams for this year's Jazz team? Williams.

Hawks could be headed for a major roster overhaul if Johnson's contract goes to NJ and Williams is dealt. It seems like every year they talk about trading Josh Smith and now he might be the one they keep.

So if Harris leaves for ATL, then the Jazz look like this?

            Mo Williams - Watson
            Hayward - Burks - Bell
Marvin Williams - Carroll - Kevin Murphy
            Millsap - Favors
            Jefferson - Kanter

Curse be upon you for listing Favors as a back-up.

                You forgot Tinsley!

And I'd be surprised if they start the season with Bell.

And now, a completely useless tidbit from Locke on twitter re: Marvin Williams:

                    David Locke ‏@Lockedonsports
In regards to the tweet of @PKKinahan - the Jazz research Marvin Williams heavily out of UNC because it was the Deron draft
Well then...KOC is surely to make a good decision based on bad, 6-year old information.

Anyone know if Jazz still hold Bird Rights to AK47? I'm trying to figure out if there is anyway they could sign him without dumping a bunch of salary via amnesty. I was assuming they can't re-sign him since they are way over the cap.

They do hold his Bird rights. But they can't sign and trade him because he wasn't on their roster last year.

There was a tweet saying they'd look into a S&T if he wanted to go to Jersey. Maybe that's not accurate.

The player must finish the preceding season with that team (deals are no longer allowed that sign-and-trade players who are out of the league, such as the sign-and-trade that sent Keith Van Horn from Dallas to New Jersey as part of the Jason Kidd trade in 2008).
That's from Larry Coon's CBA explanation.
