There were guys that had clearly scouted some of Burke's tendencies because some of his passes looked like they were meant for the opponent as they stepped in the passing lane at the perfect moment. It'll be fun to watch him try to counter the scouting that will be around on him now.

So the Jazz are 6-5 in their last 11, which is both good to see and kind of sucky at the same time. Good because it's nice to see progress out of the young guys, but sucky because a top pick out of this draft would really help down the road and with the team making progress it gets harder to fire Ty (I don't hate him as much as everyone else seems to, but I don't think he's the right coach either).

At any rate, Trey has obviously made a huge difference. Coming out of college people loved him as much for his intangibles as anything, and I think you see why. The kid just has a confidence, demeanor, leadership and alpha-competitiveness that I don't think any one of the other young guys really has. And of course he has some very obvious skill to go with it. I thought long-term he'd be a starter quality point in the league, but I didn't think it would happen this year, and obviously he's already there.

Burks continues to surprise me. I had basically written him off after last season and his tepid start this year, but it's really starting to come together for him. The J is not pretty but it's getting more effective, and he has a better burst to the hole than any other guy on the roster right now -- he just gets into the lane and up to the hoop so quick. He's also seem to have lost some of that tunnel vision he had earlier in his career, and is seeing the floor for some nice passes lately. And his shots generally just seem to be much more in the flow of the offense than at any other point prior in his careers. At this point he's settling into career highs in scoring rate, assist rate and TS%, which is nice to see.

Burke behaves and plays like he expects to be a star. So confident. He never seems impressed with himself. All business.

Here's hoping Williams can play well for the next 2 weeks so some team will take him on a trade. Bobcats should really pick him up after losing their 3 to injury.

If the Jazz started 9-9 with a healthy Burke and then he gets hurt and they go 1-10. He would be a clear front runner for rookie of the year and the Jazz would be the talk of the NBA.

I've seen some people tweeting stats about how different the eFG% is for Jazz players with Burke on the court with them and with Burke on the bench. Is there a site that publishes that stuff? I can't find it on the NBA.com advanced stats, so I'm assuming it comes from Synergy.

I've seen some shot charts but I'm not sure where they came from. Favors FG% has taken a big bump with Burke.

I've seen numbers on Favors, Williams, Hayward, and Burks...all had nice increases next to Trey. But I haven't seen anything for Kanter.

Unfortunately the Jazz have made considerable strides since the beginning of the year and the offensive execution has improved dramatically. Favors movements are looking more fluid and his touch is improving (80% from the line in December), Kanter is getting some confidence back and starting to play with that bully mentality, and Burks continuing with the strong play leading the bench unit. Throw in some flashes of good play from Burke and Hayward and I think there are more wins ahead than we're going to want to see. Shipping Dick and Marv off would help (as in, make the team worse); both have played well the last couple weeks, and even when they don't, like tonight, they still help the offense a lot by spacing the floor.

Burke had the ultimate nightmare for an NBA point guard against the Clippers, hurting his team with three turnovers in the last three minutes of a tight game (two of the turnovers came with the Jazz down by only two points). Missing shots is one thing, but not getting one off at all is a far worse transgression. They were mistakes made out of aggressiveness more than carelessness, but he had six turnovers total in the game, which came on the heels of a seven-turnover game in a win over the Lakers.

But Burke showed what he's made of in his next game, committing only one turnover in Utah's win against Charlotte. He finished December with a better than 3-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio, while making 36.8 percent of his 3s. For a point guard who just turned 21 and missed a lot of prep time in the preseason due to injury, those are eye-popping results. Utah is 10-8 in games in which Burke has played more than 20 minutes, 1-16 when he hasn't.
