I do like that the first thing Kanter said was that he hates to lose, and that Burks is living his life with a chip on his shoulder. Better than being in love with computer games.

Jazz officials saying Kanter's individual workout in Chicago sealed his place on their board.

He must have been dunking on stools instead of chairs.

Even if you get a poor man's Brandon Roy (prior to losing his knees of course) with the 12th pick, you did a very good job. Ability to get to the line is a very important skill in the NBA and something the Jazz don't have. I do like this pick. I'm coming around to liking it more than drafting Leonard.

I need convincing that there is no way Kanter is a Darko 2.0

He may well be, but here are things Kanter has going in his favor:

            1) He dominated at the Nike Hoops Summit two years ago. Darko was stashed away on a Euroleague team. He never really had a chance to play and show his skills anywhere.
            2) Kanter is a lot more physical than Darko was coming into the league
            3) Kanter also spent a year (at leas part of a year) practicing with Kentucky

By no means is he a sure thing. There is a lot of unknown with Kanter. But IMO his upside is worth the potential risk even if he is the next Darko.

So if the Jazz make any trades with current players it will be before July 1st correct?

The fact that a workout against chairs is what convinced the Jazz to take him should erase any of those doubts. Right?
                I'm like LeBron James.

He is a risk/reward pick. Jazz needed to roll the dice with the 3rd pick in the draft and that is exactly what they did. He might bust out of the league, but there is enough skill there that he might end up being a very good pick.

He did at least workout against Ty Corbin. Not that it means a ton, but Corbin has had to have worked out against Fes and Kouf. So at least he should have some baseline... right?

Exactly. If the Jazz want to win it all, they've got to take some chances. I know some may feel that means taking a chance on a defensive impact maker like Biyombo, but I feel like Favors can be that guy. I think Kanter is a lot further along offensively than he is defensively so I think it is a risk, but a good one. Maybe he turns into a more physical Dirk. Maybe he is Memo 2.0. Maybe he is the next Darko. But every player in the draft has questions and not everybody has his upside.

I think from the very little we've seen of him he plays more like Locke's comparisons of Marc Gasol and Al Horford than Memo. Kanter does appear to have solid form on his jumper but I don't think that is his primary game right now and not what got the Jazz to bite.

One thing is certain...their play by play guy sucks.

Darko 2.0 would not be a total bust. In fact would be the best center the Jazz have had since Mark Eaton.

I think Burks is Ronnie Brewer 2.0. Good slasher and finisher but eventually teams will just sag off him and let him shoot the open jumper. He was terrible from 3 last year and even worse the year the before that.

Burks is a better shooter than Brewer. His stroke is a lot better and he actually shot 35% as a freshman from the 3 an just under 30% last year. He will have to shoot better than he did last year or else teams will start sagging off of him, but IMO his form and game look smooth enough that you think those percentages can increase. IMO outside shooting is one skill that can be developed.
