gorbert performed well when he played. corbin is just playing biedras (sp?) for whatever reason. no reason not to play gorbert 30 mins a game.

I think almost anyone would agree that Gobert appears to be ahead of schedule. If we'd been told right after the draft he's spend most of the year in the d-league that would've seemed the logical and prudent decision. I'd love for him to get 15 regular minutes each night right now, but not taking minutes away from Favors or Kanter. Playing Marvin as a stretch 4 has helped Burke and Gordon, two other young guys that really need to develop. And as much as I've liked the defense and rebounding Gobert brings to the games, Evans is putting up a 20 PER, is averaging 14 and 11 per 36, and probably should get some consistent minutes over a longer stretch of games to see how he performs. The $1.7 M cap hit for Evans next year isn't bad at all for what he can offer the team, especially if he can show a bit more improvement with a consistent role and minutes.

Wiggins was the next LeBron, then McGrady, now a lesser Gay being ranked behind Aaron Gordon who gets a comp to Faried. If his star falls just a bit more the only thing it will guarantee is that he'll immediately shift over to being considered underrated, and the comparisons will start getting more and more favorable. So how about Corbin leaving Hayward on the court with all of the scrubs down 20 with 2 minutes to go? Can you think of another time a coach has left a player with a place on the team like Hayward has with this team in the game in that situation? I didn't re-watch it, but while watching the end of the game I thought Hayward made two plays where he looked really pissed, like Deron chucking the ball at Hayward back in the day.

That just seems like a stunt you don't see NBA coaches pulling. It should've been Rush or Jefferson going back in there w/the rest of the bench. But Corbin didn't want to upset the vets on the team, especially after Rush's sit down was yet another incidence of a veteran player complaining to Corbin about lack of playing time and then immediately having his playing time change after the meeting. Such a clown.

10. Jeremy Evans, Actual NBA Player

Evans was basically a novelty over the first three seasons of his career — a human pogo stick who won dunk contests, slammed alley-oops in garbage time, and didn't quite have a natural NBA position.

But he's logging more than 20 minutes per game as the backup power forward next to Enes Kanter in Tyrone Corbin's rejiggered rotation, which has largely been a success. Starting Marvin Williams at power forward and shifting Derrick Favors to center has opened up the floor, and Trey Burke has been a stabilizing force with a nifty pull-up game. That new starting group has scored 107.4 points per 100 possessions in 139 minutes together, a mark that is tied with with Rockets for third in the league, behind Portland and Miami.

And it has turned Evans into a rotation player. He's shooting more often, rebounding better than ever, and flashing a usable midrange shot. Evans is 9-of-17 on jumpers from between 15 and 19 feet out this season after hitting just nine such shots combined over his first three seasons, per NBA.com Evans still gets lost on defense now and then, but it's nice to see him play real basketball.

I will always root for Jeremy Evans. The guy seems so genuinely happy to be playing a game for a living.

Speaking of mid-range jumpers, Locke said a stat last night that surprised me: Favors is shooting 60% on jumpers between 10-15 ft. Only two years ago he shot 26% from that distance.

Guilty as charged. But, it's not like I'm a Jazz hater. I grew up in Utah and was a big fan of the Utah Stars and Zelmo Beaty. In the early 70's my Dad was faculty at BYU, and we had season tickets at the old Field House, and had row 13 when the Marriot Activity Center opened. Cosic was/is one of my all time heros. I was even a multi-year participant in the Frank Arnold Basketball Camp, and played on the Marriott floor the second year it was opened. My Utah basketball roots are deep. Remember when the Provo/Orem basketball game had 15,000 people attend? I do. I was there.

We don't even know what Paul George's ceiling is yet, so I might not mind the comparison. The post you responded to said that he may not have a killer instinct. That would be a concern if there were any basis for it. I really can't say. But his team mate, Embid is now into Chad Ford's top 3. That's interesting, if for no other reason, it helps the Jazz get one of the other guys we've been talking about. But in the highlight video I saw trying to convince people that Embid is going to be a stud, I was unimpressed. But it was just a highlight video.

Anyway, I'm still ranking Wiggins #1, then Parker or Randal #2.

There had to be some souring on the prospects in this draft, since everyone was talking about at least 3 of them being the best picks in years. But despite these weak comparisons (comparisons are always bad), Chad Ford yesterday was more excited than ever, still keeping Wiggins at #1, but saying the top tier of this draft could be 10 players deep. In the Kyrie Irving draft, Ford didn't think there was a tier 1 and no all-stars.
