BYU Basketball 2016-2017

This picture reminds me of a story. In the early 2000s I was on a trip to Utah which happened to coincide with when BYU had a basketball game against New Mexico. So I got tickets and went to see the game with a coworker. He didn't know anything really about either team, but he was a casual college basketball fan. During the pre-game warmups he commented on how much bigger and more athletic the UNM players looked. I think he really thought BYU would have a hard time with them. BYU went on not only to win, but to blow them out. Can't really blame him too much for thinking that though, I guess.

Someone on CB is reporting that this guy is now going to San Diego.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostOver on Cougarboard they are talking about some kid named Konner Frey who was UVU's 3rd leading scorer last year as taking the last scholie as a graduate transfer. He will have one year to play one and is eligible immediately. He has a touching late bloomer story that roseyscenario waxed eloquent about. Rosey is sometimes a bit rosey when it comes to BYU hoops projections, so take it for what it is worth.
Here is his bio from UVU:

It sounds like UVU used him as a 4 but my guess is at BYU he would be more a perimeter 3. I don't know if he is any more athletic than Hartsock, wrt ability to defend on the perimeter, and if he isn't I am not sure what benefit he brings, so I have no idea what he could do for BYU but my guess is as late in the game as it is this is probably the best BYU can get. He averaged 14 ppg 7 rpg and shot 42% from the field, 33% from 3 and 72% from the line. IMO a pretty acceptable pick up this late in the game and somebody who can give BYU 10-15 mpg off the bench as a perimeter forward. He also plans to enter BYU's Master of Accounting program so likely a dorky kid who will get a hawt wife who only loves him for his income earning potential! I always thought Tyler was a legit 6'5". Certainly within 1/4 inch either way. Teej is shorter. If he's over 6'4" it's by a hair. He's probably more like 6'3.5" He was taller than Marty before the mission, imho, but only just. The boys get their height from their mom.

Sounds like Rose is considering both Bryant and Childs at the 3. Interestingly, he preached caution regarding the exploits of Bryant on the scout team. Carlino, KD, and Fisher were all killers in practice but once the game lights were on they were much worse. He also said Bryant is a better shot maker than KC and TJ "is no Tyler" (but I already knew that part).

KC was the fourth or fifth best shot maker on the team last year. Million dollar move and a 5 cent finish. Bryant is an exciting prospect but may not start. We could easily see TJ, Tyler, Childs, Davis, and Mika as starters. The comment was just to highlight his strength.Originally posted by jay santos View PostThat's good news. That puts him at worst third worst in BYU history.

If Davis is starting then we can expect to be a fairly mediocre team again. Maybe this year will become a year to simply develop the younger talent.

Sorry, Nick. I disagree on Davis. If he's a top option we have a problem but as the 5th guy...Originally posted by imanihonjin View PostI assume you mean Nick?

I don't get the Yoeli Childs at the 3 idea. Time will tell but I am skeptical a post player can move to the perimeter as the level of play increases.Originally posted by KillerDog View PostKC was the fourth or fifth best shot maker on the team last year. I am in the camp that thinks your starters are Bryant, Emery, Haws, Davis and Mika. Off the bench BYU will bring Chatman, hopefully a SR grad transfer, Childs and Dastrup. Emergency needs filled by Beo, Hartsock, Kaufusi (come conference season) Aytes and Shaw.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.
