I haven't been following BYU Basketball much the last couple years, so I don't know what kind of impact Carlino leaving will have on the team. His stats seem to indicate that his loss will be felt though, even if he was inconcsistent. Although I just don't care enough about the basketball team to have any ill will towards Carlino, I probably feel the same way about his transfer as I did about Jake Heaps's. Unless there was some unbearable circumstances that I am not aware of that made staying at BYU intolerable, I view their decisions as primarily selfish ones that show a lack of respect for their teammates, coaches, and fans. Quitting on a team that you have committed to, and who has supported you through your struggles, shows a certain lack of character in the absence of extenuating circumstances, in my opinion.
With that said, I think we all lack character to some extent, so I'll try not to hold it against them too much. I honestly hope Carlino's life-after-BYU turns out better for him than Heaps's did. I would be shocked to see him ever play at the NBA level, but maybe he can find a place where he can play more minutes his senior year and have a career in Europe or something.

Heaps' life-after-BYU has not yet concluded. I must say though, that I did not expect him to have fewer completions and yards in his junior year at Kansas than he had his sophomore year at BYU:Originally posted by UVACoug View PostI haven't been following BYU Basketball much the last couple years, so I don't know what kind of impact Carlino leaving will have on the team. This is pretty much spot-on regarding the ACL. If it is torn bad enough to require reconstruction then the degree of tear is irrelevant; you get the same surgery. Other mitigating factors would be other injuries: torn ligaments, torn meniscus, cartilage damage. Theses can effect the overall recovery - time and quality.Originally posted by pellegrino View PostCan we get the docs to chime in on this? Having blown my ACL back in the day, I just don't think this would matter. You still have the operation. You still get a completely new ACL, so it doesn't matter if the tear wasn't as bad. The only thing that matters is the patient's ability to recover, it has nothing to do with the original ACL tear."You interns are like swallows. LOL. You sound like a jilted second wife. FYI, Carlino's "lack of character" is what brought him to BYU in the first place.Originally posted by UVACoug View PostI haven't been following BYU Basketball much the last couple years, so I don't know what kind of impact Carlino leaving will have on the team. I thought it had to do with being bullied by a teammate and Howland telling reporters who asked why Carlino didn't play that he had forgot about him.Originally posted by Applejack View PostLOL. (which totally sounds like the name of a bully)
As usual, I think UVACoug is spot on. It's a good thing that BYU is getting rid of low-class quitters like Carlino and replacing him with high character, never-say-die guys like Aytes and that Wake Forest kid.
