IMO Matty just made the dumbest decision of his life. He won't ever be playing in the NBA, and playing elsewhere does nothing to improve his chances in Europe. Dumb, especially when the guy in front of you blew his ACL and may not be ready for next year.

Can we get the docs to chime in on this? Having blown my ACL back in the day, I just don't think this would matter. You still have the operation. You still get a completely new ACL, so it doesn't matter if the tear wasn't as bad. The only thing that matters is the patient's ability to recover, it has nothing to do with the original ACL tear.Originally posted by A-Train View PostLosing Carlino hurts only in the fact that he is 10x the player Dobby is and would be needed if KC is not ready. That said, I do think Matty saw the writing on the wall that his minutes were going to go down with Fischer being eligible, IV being more experienced, and the arrival of Jordan Chatman who I think will have just as much impact as KC had this season. Fischer, Chatman, and IV make us so much better defensively on the perimeter where we absolutely sucked last year. Plus, Rose can finally play more man than zone as he has the horses to do so.
Obviously the key is KC coming back. From the sounds of it, his AC tear was not as bad as some so that is why they anticipate a quicker recovery. If he can be ready by the start of the season I am thinking this team could make a pretty big push next year.Dio perdona tante cose per un’opera di misericordia

The key word you said was, "Back in the day". There is a huge difference in how bad the tear was as well as if other Ligaments were torn, etc... Over the past 20 years, there have been huge strides in this surgery. That all being said, if KC is not ready.... It doesn't really matter. I do not want him coming back until he is 100% ready to come back and if that means that he should red shirt, then that is what he should do.
As far a Jordan Chatman goes. He is slightly smaller than KC but is 6'4 and played point guard in high school. Was also Mr. Basketball for the state Washington and has a great overall game and if I had to compare his game to anyone on the current BYU team, I would compare him to KC. He will make our team so much better with the way he can defend and rebound. The biggest key will be how quickly can he come back. Being that his Dad is tight with Marty Haws, I anticipate that Jordan will follow the exact same routine that Tyler and KC did to get themselves ready to play.
Finally, I loved Matty and I wish him the best. I do think it was a selfish move on his part but he is getting his degree and has every right to do it and I do think he saw that if KC was back in time which is the plan, his minutes for next year would diminish with Fischer, IV, and Chatman getting more of those minutes. Carlino's biggest problem over he course of his BYU career was that he was consistently inconsistent. Some games, he looked like a world beater and played aggressive confident ball and other games he was very tentative and could not throw a rock into the ocean.

It really is amazing that this is the thought process of players. At the end of the day, there are very few politics involved in my opinion at the college level. Coaches are going to play the players that will give them the best chance of winning. They have to win or they are gone. These kids think that they will walk in and be a star somewhere else when the majority of the times, that isn't the case if they are not dropping a level in competition. They end up having the same type of role they had at the previous school.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostYet another athlete laboring under the illusion that coaching is holding him back.
I would love to see a study done on what the kid did before and after they transferred. It would be hard to do because there would be a lot of determining factors. Things like level of competition that they transferred to, is it the same level or is it a step down, what was the true reason of the transfer......."Take it to the Bank"

I guess he could be making a solid non basketball decision. Move to a school where he is more apt to find a compatible long term companion. Move to a school where he can pursue a Masters degree he perceives will be more useful in pursuing a career. He might be tired of following the honor code and wants some of the side benefits of being a high profile athlete.

I blew my ACL out in 1999, and even then athletes were recovering within 6 months. I have no idea how the actual surgery has changed, but even if the changes in the procedure make recovery faster, I don't see a correlation with how severe the original tear was.Originally posted by A-Train View PostThe key word you said was, "Back in the day". On the bright side, I remember Rose saying that KC will be able to be in the gym within a couple months, but he'd be restricted to what he can do.....one of those things being shooting free throws. It can't hurt to have him shoot only free throws for 4 months

I'm disappointed he's leaving, but I don't see it as a problem in the program.
He's always been a different guy. He barely ever performed well against a good team.
I hold no ill will and hope he has a good senior year somewhere. I don't think it will be the type of thing where we miss him all that much. I'm excited to see how Chase Fischer performs. Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

Carlino will be missed, plain and simple. Yes, KC is a good passer but Carlino was a great passer and now we have limited experience at the point."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

I don't disagree but he was a unique and creative passer that can't be replicated with the likes of KC or Chatman.Originally posted by Donuthole View Post"I took the liberty ofordering you another scotchfixing your post."
