BYU has the season results back pretty far. For example: http://byucougars.com/schedule/m-basketball/1986-1987

Yeah, I feel like it was more than just that. Obviously teams get favorable regional games all the time. Maybe I'm thinking of something else, but when Dayton was announced as playing in the first round in Dayton, my first reaction was "again?!"
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I think they were a bubble team in 2012, and there was a lot of pre-selection discussion about them possibly playing a first round game in Dayton. But it never panned out as they were left out altogether.

I believe there was a decent chance that Dayton would have been selected to the first four last season since they were on the bubble. They ended up as an 11 seed, beating Ohio State, Syracuse, and Stanford before losing to Florida in the Elite Eight.
