Why do you say that?

What's inspiring about Miles and the job he's done at CSU? He's a good coach no doubt, but has no ties to the west coast recruiting circles, has never spent any time in the cutthroat hoops leagues and might not even get CSU into the NCAAs in their best season in some time. Utah can, and will, do better.

The problem here is that I think Boylen can win at Utah next year, but with a handful of seniors (4-5?) then we're right back in rebuilding mode after next season. I still don't feel like the program is totally stable and I'm not sure that a mini-run at the end of the year is enough to justify giving Boylen another year (which ultimately is another 2-3 years if he wins 18 and gets into the dance out of the Pac 12).

18 wins is no guarantee of an NCAA Tournament berth in the Pac-12. In fact, I'll say we're a borderline NIT team with an 18-14 mark. Yeah, the team will be better, but are we going to fire a coach coming off a winning record? Because it's either extend or fire after next season.

I think that is the problem. I actually think that the program is more stable now. Yes, there are a lot of JUCOs, but OBrien and Gover will both be around...Dominic Lee has oodles of potential and will be a freshman next year along with a few others. The Utes need to keep on increasing the talent level, but it is much better now than it has been recently.

I also agree with TopUte though...if Hill does not think Boylen is the man for the job, you have to fire him now. Because next year, the Utes will be better and have a better record and firing him next year would be hard to do. It is kind of what BYU did with Crowton. They decided Crowton wasn't the man for the job and fired him knowing that the next year, his team would be better and that much more difficult to fire.

It's interesting that Boylen is still around, because that's clearly a break from "precedent" set with Giacoletti. That said, Giac was fired with no home games left in the schedule, whereas our finale this year was at home. You can't bring a fired coach back to his lair -- it's like expecting the employee you just laid off to finish out his work day on a productive note.

I would guess the MWC has whispered to Hill and asked him nicely not to pull the trigger on Jimmy during the MWC Tournament. Organizations like the MWC generally want the stage to itself during its showcase event, and don't need anything from within to upstage it.

My guess is Jimmy gets canned on Sunday or Monday after the team gets back from Vegas. The flight Jimmy takes out of Vegas should be very telling. I'll be shocked if he goes on a recruiting trip.

I won't be happy if Boylen is coaching the MWC tournament. Sure there is almost no chance that we win the tournament, but if we do then that is guaranteeing another year of Boylen. I prefer to give him zero chance to salvage his job at this point.

Does anyone with inside ties to the program have any leads on whether Boylen really will get the axe (or ax)?

I understand that things don't look good for him right now but is there anything out there beyond message board grumblings? Has anyone heard from a BOT or a high ranking Crimson Club member or other insider?
