Once Chris Hill finally leaves the way will be open for us to do these things.Originally posted by UtahDan View PostIt's mind boggling that we don't just hire Phil Jackson or recruit us some blue chippers or both.

I'm not ready to say Larry can't recruit, but outside of Loveridge he hasn't really shown me he's any better of a recruiter than Boylen. And by all accounts one of the big reasons Jordan picked Utah is because he wanted to play in the Pac-12. The JC kid Wright looks like a comparable recruit to Clyburn. I'm not sure how you can make any kind of judgement on the rest.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostI disagree to the extent you are saying LK can't recruit. i don't think a coach can get PAC-12 level recruits simply by being a good salesman. You've got to have a credible program that is attractive, and LK hasn't had that yet. Even so, there's evidence he can sell. Loveridge was a huge get that amazed and impressed everyone, because there was no reason for Jordan to come to Utah. Gottfried's selling a much different product than LK is, so the comparison is not apples to apples. Not even close.
Gottfried has a track record of being an excellent recruiter. I don't think it's crazy to believe he would be doing a little better.

Oh please, Gottfried was not an unrealistic option for the Utes. He had been unemployed for several years and had some amount of baggage coming back into the game. He was absolutely a realistic candidate for the Utes.Originally posted by UtahDan View PostIt's mind boggling that we don't just hire Phil Jackson or recruit us some blue chippers or both.As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

I was one who was hoping for a hire like Gottfried and I was disappointed and surprised when Krysko was hired. After the decision was made, to me it becomes a matter of being realistic. I realize I don't know anything about all the considerations that Chris Hill had in front of him, such as the resources he had available and the level of interest various candidates really had, just to name two. No one knows those factors but Hill, although there are many people who seem to think they know a lot about them. But the decision was made and I decided to live with it.Originally posted by Cutty View PostI'm not ready to say Larry can't recruit, but outside of Loveridge he hasn't really shown me he's any better of a recruiter than Boylen. Since his hire Larry has won me over. I think he can do the job and I really like his approach. As for recruiting and other long-term successes, time will tell, and there is reason to be cautious. But I believe there is good reason to be optimistic. I'm going to do my best to enjoy the ride. I know others see this differently.Last edited by LA Ute; 01-16-2013, 09:53 AM.“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

I think Gottfried was afraid of BYU. Plain and simple."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

The guy is no dummy. Even two years ago he knew what was going on at Lone Peak.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostI think Gottfried was afraid of BYU. Plain and simple.“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

After 12 seasons and a 2-20 record this year, Blaine Taylor, who was one of the guys I had really wanted for Utah (both times) was fired yesterday by ODU. It sounds like there is a lot more to the story here in terms of his personal conduct, but it looks like the Utes dodged a bullet perhaps with Taylor. He still leaves ODU with the most wins in school history, but man, 2-20, that's rough."They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.
Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I can't believe that you guys are still discussing coaching options. Here's more evidence that Krystko is your best bet:
Dallin Backasheensky was THISCLOSE to transferring because he wasn't getting the PT he anticipated that he would. Why? Because Washburn was playing better than anyone ever thought he could. Washburn's improved performance is 100% attributable to K.

Or the plain truth that seniors are generally better than they were as sophomores.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostI can't believe that you guys are still discussing coaching options. Here's more evidence that Krystko is your best bet:

As for Bachinsky, he's just not that good. There's a reason he signed with Southern Utah out of HS and was ignored by all the high majors.

The same thing was being said about Luke Nevill to justify Boylen's ability as a coach.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostThat's my point. Under Boylen no one was getting any better than they were as freshmen. Washburn was making the same boneheaded basic mistakes. As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

Ute fans are good at perpetuating lies to justify their current stance. Even the one quoted above is a half truth. Luke's game improved under Jimmy but its not like he was some stiff Boyken inherited as evidenced by the fact that Nevill's best offensive year came under GiacolettiOriginally posted by mpfunk View PostThe same thing was being said about Luke Nevill to justify Boylen's ability as a coach.
