  • With the addition of Mboup the roster for next year is complete. Here are the 13 scholarship players:

    1.) Elijah Crawford- FR
    2.) Kanon Catchings- FR
    3.) Egor Demin- FR
    4.) Brody Kozlowski- FR
    5.) Khadim Mboup-FR
    6.) Dallin Hall- JR
    7.) Dawson Baker- JR
    8.) Richie Saunders- JR
    9.) Keiba Keita- JR
    10.) Fous Traore- SR
    11.) Mawot Mag- SR
    12.) Trevin Knell- SR
    13.) Trey Stewart- SR

I expect the following to play:
    1.) Dallin Hall, Elijah Crawford
    2.) Dawson Baker, Trevin Knell
    3.) Egor Demin, Richie Saunders
    4.) Kanon Catchings, Mawot Mag
    5.) Fous Traore, Keiba Keita

I firmly believe Hall and Demin will start. I am not sure after that. Kozlowski, Mboup and Trey Stewart will only play in case of heavy foul trouble and injury. I think Kozlowski is likely going to play the most of these 3 as a 3rd 4 and reserve wing. I think Mboup, while talented, being younger needs a year to physically mature and grow up a bit-I think this will be a developmental year for him to work on his body, adjust to living in the US and develop his skills. I doubt Trey plays much as BYU can use Baker and Demin at PG if needed-in fact Demin might be the back up to Hall as is and Crawford might be the #3 PG. Time will tell but I tend to think BYU will play Crawford to develop him and because he is a really good 3 point shooter. I have no clue how minutes will be dispersed by my guess is of the top 10 Hall plays the most at about 28-30 mpg and Crawford plays the least at about 10. Rest will will hover 15-24.

    I like the roster demographics:
    6 LDS-5 RMs
    7 non-LDS
    7 Black/African descent
6 White kids with 1 of those a East European.
2 guys who are pure 5's-albeit one is a bit undersized.
4 guys who are both wings/power forwards (Mag, Kozlowski, Catchings, Mboup)-obviously Young wants to defend similar to NBA and how Pope wanted to defend with ability to switch and playing a roster where many can defend multiple positions.
3 pure points guards (Stewart, Hall, Crawford)
    2 combo guards (Baker, Demin)
2 potential one and dones. I am convinced Demin starts but I am interested how it breaks down with Catchings. I like Mag and I stand by my opinion nobody on the team does anything as well as Mag defends. How the one and dones works with BYU intrigues me enormously. How many Young will want on the team? How many can BYU land? From what is said about recruits and the landing of Demin and Catchings, and even Crawford, indicates at this point in time recruits are buying what BYU is selling. How Demin and Catchings do is going to go a long way in affirming that faith or causing a faith crisis. It is a high risk-high reward situation and very new territory for us. I am glad Young is a pro coach because he has very pro decisions and scenarios to work through this next year.

It is going to be a fun and interesting year.

          • Sleepers breaks down this year's class in their always entertaining style. They have BYU ranked #9 in their top 21 recruiting classes.

The margins are razor thin, these ratings are totally subjective in basketball, and winning is mostly about coaching if you're in that range. And obviously they're counting the Russian or these rankings really are nonsensical. Maybe they are.

Utah has a sophomore transfer who was no. 39 last year and went to Baylor. So really, who knows?

Sorry but you know I'm a natural skeptic. I've seen this movie many times before. Usually it's not a happy ending. Most coaches fail. 2 percent succeed to fans' expectations.

Washington and Georgetown have better classes than BYU and I'm not too optimistic. I may like Utah's class best.

                  • BYU's overall ranking is still only 27. Must have been factored in.

I'm looking forward to seeing how these best laid plans of mice and men unfold.

Or, maybe they haven't updated their team recruiting rankings yet to take the new player ratings.

Seems unlikely that a player rating that didn't yet exist was already factored into the team rankings.

Welcome to the Big 12. What is your prediction for Utah conference basketball wins being that you "may like Utah's class best"?

Yep. Considering they don't list a 5 star for BYU on the chart, I'm pretty sure he isn't factored in yet.

Updated to 13th. And Egor still not included.

Those are the freshman class rankings, not including the transfers. BYU's transfer class is showing as only consisting of two players, half of which are coming from Utah, so it's understandable why it's only rated #109.

Combining the freshman rankings (which currently still exclude Egor) and the transfer rankings gets us to the overall rankings, which is the #27 that SeattleUte was referencing.

Ah. Gotcha. That's dum and SU's supposed point is dum. BYU is killing it.
