    • Missiles target US consulate in north Iraq, no casualties

As many as 12 missiles were fired Sunday toward the U.S. consulate in Iraq’s northern city of Irbil, Iraqi security officials said. A U.S. defense official said missiles had been launched at the city from neighboring Iran.

Officials in Iraq and the U.S. gave different accounts of damage. A second U.S. official said there was no damage and no casualties at any U.S. government facility, but Iraqi officials said several missiles had hit the U.S. consulate. The consulate building is new and currently unoccupied.
      [...]
One of the Iraqi officials said the ballistic missiles were fired from Iran, without elaborating. The U.S. officials could not confirm the type of missile.

There's nothing worse than a country that gets involved in global shenanigans. That's what I love about my country...we mind our own business.

          • We might be better off if Bush went after Iran instead of Iraq

US foreign policy--probably a discussion for another thread.

Let's talk about what Iran is doing today
              • Supporting and facilitating terrorist organizations like Hamas, Hezbollah, and Houthi rebels among others.
              • Sending drones to Russia to wage their war on Ukraine and expand their borders.
              • Fire drones on commercial ships like the one carrying chemicals 200 miles off the coast of India yesterday.
The lack of consequences for such actions only emboldens them.

Not helpful that the State Department's lead envoy to Iran is on leave and under investigation for mishandling classified information.

Oh come on. Can we really expect people to respect classifications anymore?

                        • I'd love to be in the Situation Room listening to the discussion. No doubt all of the options have been gamed out months in advance and now they're working on what would be the appropriate, perhaps proportional, response. I'd consider taking out Iran's drone production facilities and pounding a couple of militia sites.

                              • This is a very, very bad thing. What always strikes me about these leaks is the leaker is almost always someone who should have never had access to the information to begin with. It's seems very unlikely that a CIA analyst in the Cambodian embassy was read in on time sensitive Israeli strikes on Iran. If that's the case, either he was able to access information he shouldn't have or someone leaked those documents to him.
